Chapter 10 Starting Over Isn't Happening
Grant looked exhausted when he came in. His tie had been yanked loose, and two buttons on his shirt were undone.
He spotted me sitting on the bed with a notebook in my hands, grinning like an idiot, and he frowned at once. "What's so funny?"
He walked closer, bringing a faint trace of tobacco with him.
I hurriedly hid the notebook behind my back and put on an obedient look. "It's… It's nothing. Mr. Walton, you're back."
Grant stared for a moment, as if that obedient look had dragged him straight back to the version of me he remembered.
He moved closer and sat at the edge of the bed. When he spoke again, his voice was unusually gentle.
"Elodie, I know you lost your memory, and it's hard to accept everything right now. That's fine. We can start over."
The words "start over" made every warning light in my head flare.
The contract was already over. Starting over wasn't happening.
"Mr. Walton—"
"Call me Grant," he corrected, lifting his hand toward my face.
