Chapter 259

"No need, Mr. Clarkson. You must believe that your assistant will get everything done brilliantly." Melissa turned to Joseph and bowed, a cheeky smile spreading at the corners of her mouth. Just as she was about to walk away, she turned back and added. "And Mr. Clarkson, don't bother sending a car for me, that would be too troublesome. I'll leave once I finish breakfast!" It seemed that Melissa knew him well. He was just about to offer his car to Melissa for her errands, partly to have an extra pair of eyes tracking where she was going and what her plans might be. Melissa wouldn't be fooled easily, indeed. After her breakfast, she kissed the children on the forehead and embarked on her little revenge mission with a strong sense of purpose. A few days ago, Nancy did something underhanded at Melissa's traditional Chinese bridal gown exhibition, which led a famous model she invited to step on a broken glass, hurting her foot. Fortunately, the injury was not serious; otherwise, the model's career would have been ruined. Today, Melissa was digging up Nancy's black history from the past and planning to give her a taste of her own medicine. After Melissa left, Joseph called his former assistant "Timothy Daniel, I have a difficult task for you. Be a private detective for a day and follow someone for me." "Yes, Boss. Who should I trail?" Assistant Daniel asked respectfully. He had done all sorts of odd jobs beside Joseph over the years, the only one he hadn't done was to play a private detective. "I'll send you her location later." Joseph finished, then emphasized once again "She is a very cunning person, be cautious." "Understood, Second Young Master," Assistant Daniel immediately headed out to follow as soon as he got the location coordinates. "Notify me immediately if anything unexpected happens." Joseph sent his most trusted assistant to tail Melissa mainly to ensure her personal safety. Joseph had a feeling that Melissa's trip was still about her revenge. He didn't want Melissa to do something reckless that would ruin her promising future. "Yes, Second Young Master, don't worry." Assistant Daniel was quite happy to be assigned the task of a private detective by Joseph. He found it very novel and felt that it would be more enjoyable than staying at home. Although Melissa had been busy lately, she would occasionally get in touch with her old classmates whenever she had some spare time, bringing up their former physics teacher, Paul Reuben. With Melissa's diligent investigation effort, she finally found out Reuben's home address. If it weren't for Nancy's act of placing broken glass in her model's shoes, Melissa might not have used Reuben for her revenge on Nancy. But Nancy's last provocation at Melissa's bridal wear exhibition was the last straw. She hurt an innocent person with her vile methods. For this, Melissa was determined to let the world know just how reprehensible Nancy was. When Melissa hailed a taxi and arrived near her destination, she saw a banner for secondary school physics tutoring classes on the ground floor of a building and knew that must be Reuben's house. "Driver, could you do me a favor and circle this residential area a few times more to shake off the car behind us?" Having noticed a vehicle tailing them since the start of their journey, Melissa was fairly sure that it was Joseph tracking her. "Sure thing, someone's really got it out for you. I noticed them following us too." The driver, roused by annoyance, hit the gas and plunged into the residential area. After five rounds, they finally managed to lose the tailing vehicle. After getting out of the taxi, Melissa cut through the residential area using the back door of the supermarket, and went directly to the front door of Reuben's secondary school physics tutoring class. She knocked on the glass sliding door three times symbolically, then walked in. "Hello…" Before Reuben could finish his greeting, on seeing her face, he recognized her as his former student. "Mr. Paul, I wonder if you remember me." Melissa walked directly to the sofa where Reuben was sitting, causing him to fall into a daze as he studied this extraordinary woman standing before him. "What are you doing here?" Recognizing her as a former student, Reuben had forgotten her name. This man approaching in his fifties no longer had the sharpness in his eyes, which time had mellowed. Yet, Melissa felt uncomfortable upon seeing his creepy gaze. "Mr. Paul, is the wound on your neck still aching?" said Melissa straight up. Reuben's eyes widened involuntarily and his lips trembled as he asked "What... what are you here for?" When speaking, his eyes were filled with fear and hatred. The incident from over seven years ago, filled with resentment, surfaced in his mind. Both Nancy and Murphy made him lose his job and almost his life. His miserable condition was all due to the couple! "Mr. Paul, it’s such a pity that you're only tutoring part-time here. Remember how you used to have an 80% excellence rate in the classes you taught and were even rated as an outstanding teacher for many years? It's all because of Nancy and Murphy that all your efforts were in vain, and you even almost lost your life over some ungrateful person. Mr. Paul, your life shouldn't have been like this." Melissa was trying to manipulate Reuben into reopening old wounds, to hate the negative influence Nancy and Murphy brought him, along with the almost-fatal injury. "Mr. Paul, the scar on the back of your neck seems rather severe, I assume it would never truly be gone." Said Melissa lightly, trying to remind him of the unbearable memory from the past. "What's your intention?" Reuben suspiciously looked at the woman before him, tall and head-turningly gorgeous, vaguely remembering that she was once Nancy's close friend. Melissa flashed a gentle smile and said seriously "Mr. Paul, I have an opportunity here for you to exact revenge on that lowlife who wrecked your family and ruined your promising future. Are you interested?" Reuben's pupils inadvertently dilated. He was suppressing his hatred and anger deep within - a desire he had been unable to fulfill for long years. “I won’t be part of something that harms others without benefiting oneself." Claimed Reuben, seemingly certain, but his words lacked conviction, as if he himself didn't agree to it. Melissa casually shifted her stance, took a stroll around the room, then picked up a photo of Reuben's son from a cabinet, while appreciating the photo, she said "Mr. Paul, how could I possibly ask you to hurt others without any benefits? After all, I have money. All I need is for you to help me record a video."
