Chapter 32
Melissa quickly pinning Nancy onto the ground and lithely straddling her midsection, her hand swiftly delivering a series of resounding slaps.
She was careful not to slap Nancy's face red, as the intention wasn't to cause her pain, but to humiliate her.
"Melissa, you wretch, let me go!"
Nancy tried desperately to wriggle free, but being pinned down made her effort futile.
"Nancy, those slaps were payback for that day at the cocktail party when Mr Clarkson stopped me. Now, I've given back,"
Melissa said, as calm as ever. Looking down at the struggling, humiliated figure under her, she spoke without an inkling of emotion,
"See, resorting to violence only brings about disgrace. If you plan to use this method against others in the future, better assess your abilities first."
"Melissa, you shameless shrew!"
Nancy's hair was a chaotic mess, her dress stained with coffee.
She had completely lost the dignity of being the wife of the CEO of Humphrey Group. This time, Nancy had truly embarrassed herself.
"Nancy remember, today is only the beginning."
Melissa paused momentarily, revealing a deep, meaningful smile.
"Whatever payback you're planning, I'll be waiting for you at the Clarkson family mansion."
She stood up quickly, waving at Amy.
"What did you say?"
Falling from the table had twisted Nancy's waist and she stayed lying on the ground, glaring venomously at Melissa.
The Clarkson Family mansion? Why would Melissa be living there? Nancy was utterly surprised.
"Soon, you'll find out,"
Melissa left those cold words behind and walked away.
Nancy clenched her fists, biting her lip, her gaze filled with hatred, watching Melissa's shadow gradually disappear from her sight.
....…
On a small, quiet, sun-filled path, two figures walked slowly, leaning into each other.
"Amy, you were amazing earlier. The recording was perfectly timed,"
Melissa wrapped her arm around her friend’s neck, continuously praising her.
"Really? I was nearly scared to death,"
Amy clutched her chest. She had never participated in any kind of conflict before.
"Of course! My dear darling friend, you've rendered a great service today. Without you, I really wouldn't know who to ask for help."
Melissa expressed her heartfelt gratitude. Apart from Alvin and Alvina. Melissa only has her aunt as a family member. However, it's inappropriate to involve elders in such conflicts, so Melissa could only ask her best friend Amy for help.
"Don't say that, Melissa. Actually, when both of you started fighting just now, I could have gone up to help, but I..."
Amy felt somewhat guilty as she spoke. She did have a bit of selfishness, on one hand she was unwilling to lay hands on others, on the other hand, she was afraid to cause trouble.
"I understand, Amy. you're not the type of girl who readily resorts to violence, unlike me, a hot-headed woman."
Melissa laughed somewhat self-mockingly.
In her eyes, Amy was the perfect image of a lady.
She can't even bear to kill a fly, let alone beat someone up. Plus, this person happened to be a friend they used to share.
Amy was temporarily unable to cross this hurdle mentally.
"Melissa, you're talking nonsense. You're so pretty, and you call yourself a shrew! If I were a man, I’d marry you, a so-called shrew, first."
Amy knew that Melissa was an understanding person, very approachable and kind to everyone during school time, with the personality of a chivalrous woman.
"Speaking of marriage, I think it's quite nice being a single parent. At least, I'm used to living this way. Now the only issue left is finances. Maybe, I should start looking for a job. That way I can make my own money, so I won't depend on any man."
Speaking of any man, Melissa remembered the cheque given to her by Joseph and she felt insulted and belittled.
'that scumbag' she mumbled underneath her breath.
