Chapter 69

She pushed through the dense trees, already quite a distance from where the car had dropped her off. No headlights in sight - the driver must've gone to get Cassian. Sabrina didn't have a plan, just didn't want to be at the mercy of his moods anymore. So she kept walking along the roadside. It was dead silent; no one around except the wind rustling the leaves. But she wasn't scared. After dying once, she'd realized that ghosts weren't the scariest things - people were. The cold wind bit through her clothes, yet her body kept heating up. Her legs felt like jelly, and breathing became harder and heavier. She hunched over, bracing her knees, panting messily, cursing her useless body. It hadn't been that long since she caught a cold after falling into the ocean, and now it felt like she was about to collapse again. As that thought hit her, a violent shiver took over, and when she tried taking another step, her legs completely gave out, like melted ice cream. She hit the ground helplessly.
