When Elijah returned to the car, he tossed a small shopping bag onto the back seat. Louisa didn't get a chance to see what was inside.
His eyes flickered to her neck before he started the engine.
"Thank you," Louisa said. She was now wearing a silk scarf—a delicate, vintage-inspired piece that matched her coat. More importantly, it completely hid the mark he had left on her skin.
"I'm just cleaning up my own mess," Elijah replied, brushing off her gratitude entirely.
Louisa couldn't care less. As he said, he was the one who caused the problem, so it was only right that he provided the solution.
Once Louisa was able to accept the situation, she no longer felt as embarrassed about it.
