I walked briskly to the elevator, feeling the weight of my conversation with Mr. Laquan settle over me. The offer was tempting—too tempting—but it left a sour taste in my mouth. Did I really want to win like that? To use Nicholas as leverage?
As I approached the elevator, my gaze flickered to the figure standing there.

I had no interest in conversing with her, but the way she subtly smirked told me she was going to make it very difficult to ignore her.
She glanced at me, her lips curling into a smirk as if she had been expecting me. I sighed inwardly, already dreading whatever she was about to say.
“Well, well, well,” she drawled, her arms crossing over her chest. “I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting to see you here, Alicia. But I suppose some things never change.”
I didn’t respond. I had no interest in entertaining her.
