Chapter 116 The Edge of Ruin
Scarlett’s POV
I sat alone on the park bench, staring at the fading sunlight filtering through the trees.
The warmth in the air didn’t reach me. I was cold inside, numb, hollow, unraveling.
My mind was a whirlwind of anger, fear, and desperation.
Rage pulsed beneath my skin like a second heartbeat. Ethan’s rejection. Brian’s threat. Marcus and Derek turning their backs on me.
Everything was falling apart, and no one cared. No one lifted a finger to help me.
I gripped my phone tightly, my knuckles white, and stared at the name on the screen for a few long seconds.
Harland.
With no one left to turn to, I dialed Harland’s number.
It only rang once.
His voice was calm and calculated as ever when he answered. “Scarlett. I wondered when you’d call.”
I straightened on the bench, forcing my voice to sound composed. “I have information for you,” I said.
My voice steady despite the storm inside me. “Rachel Company is involved in smuggling original documents. I can give you the details.”
Harland
