Lucien was still asleep when I opened my eyes.
His arm lay heavy across my waist, warm and unyielding even in rest, as if his body knew something I was trying very hard not to admit.
The fire had burned low, casting faint shadows across the room, and for a long moment I stayed exactly where I was, listening to the steady rhythm of his breathing and the quiet hum of the bond between us.
Last night clung to me in ways I didn’t want to examine too closely. My skin still remembered his mouth, the restraint in his hands, the way he had listened when I told him to stop. He had given me space when every instinct in him must have screamed to take more.
That should have made this easier.
