The warehouse should have been quiet by now.
Instead, sharp voices cut through the night, men shouting over one another as shadows moved frantically between stacked crates and idling vehicles.
I crouched deeper in the brush, my pulse thundering as I watched them load out cargo with the frantic urgency of people who knew they had been exposed.
The commander stood out immediately—a broad silhouette with authority carved into his posture, a weapon slung carelessly at his side as he barked orders that snapped the others into motion.
His head turned suddenly, eyes scanning the tree line, and even in the absence of moonlight, I caught the faint glow of his gaze cutting toward us.
“Kara…” Mira whispered, fear threading her voice as her back pressed hard against the tree beside me. “We should get out of here.”
