The driver had been waiting outside the airport early in the morning. He immediately approached when he saw Felix and me.
I sat in the car, my eyes fixed on the street outside.
A festival was in full swing. Locals were beaming joyfully, and loud pops echoed occasionally as people set off celebratory fireworks.
Colored confetti rained down from the sky, and I reached out of the car window to catch a piece.
"What festival is this?" I asked. "It's so lively."
The driver, a fellow Valantian, politely replied, "It's the birthday of a local deity they worship. It's also the biggest celebration of the year here. The festivities will last for days."
I nodded and turned my gaze back to the streets, but the driver continued, "Mrs. Affleck, the fireworks earlier were for the goddess who governs fertility. The fact that you caught a piece means good fortune is coming your way."
My face flushed red. Felix chuckled softly, "Then, we'll count on the goddess to bless us."
