Chapter 667 I Do Not Want To Lie To You

The room was so silent that even the sound of a pin drop could be heard. Madeleine sat on the sofa alone, curled up in dead silence. Iris sat nearby with a complex expression. Since Madeleine kept quiet, she dared not say anything as she was afraid anything she said might affect Madeleine’s emotions. Nobody knew what was going on downstairs but it had been a while and they had not heard any suspicious sound coming from downstairs. They wanted to take a look but were afraid of interrupting anything, thus they had no choice but to let time tick by arduously slow. Seconds and minutes passed. Iris could no longer sit still. Just as she felt that she was going stiff, she decided to stand up. “Perhaps I should check out what’s going on downstairs.” She had just taken two steps when Madeleine calmly said, “Don’t go.” “Madeleine?” Iris looked at her with a bewildered gaze. “Aren’t you feeling curious now? We’ve been up here for some time now, don’t you want to know what is going on between both of them now?” Madeleine said nothing but shook her head. She did not need to do much guessing to know how they would interact with each other. With Mason’s character, he would be able to guess what was going on just by looking at Lil Millet who looked so much like him. She just wondered how Mason would view her after he found out the truth? A truth that had been kept from him for five years. At this moment, she wondered if he would be angry at her? Loathed her? Hated her? Iris clenched her jaw upon seeing Madeleine’s nonchalant reaction. “I’m going to check it out, don’t stop me.” “Iris!” Madeleine called her back loudly which made Iris stop and turned back to look at Madeleine. “It’s late now. Go back to your room, put on a mask, bathe, and sleep. Don’t bother yourself with this matter.” “But you…” “Don’t worry, I know what to do, I will be able to handle this carefully.” “Madeleine!!” “Go back!” Madeleine repeated firmly and looked at Iris as if she was an adult looking at a child. Iris had never seen Madeleine reacting that way with her before. It was obvious that Madeleine did not want Iris to get involved in this matter. If Iris insisted on doing it her way, Madeleine might get angry. “Okay then, I won’t meddle into this and I won’t be bothered about you all. I’m going back to my room to rest.” Iris then left the room. After Madeleine was left alone, she slumped on the sofa once again and closed her eyes. She heard the door opening again and felt helpless as she thought that Iris was back again, thus she said, “Didn’t I say that I will handle this myself? Just go back to sleep and stop disturbing me.” There was no reply, thus she thought that Iris had left. After some thought, she felt that it did not seem right. Iris knew that Madeleine was already angry and would never come to look for her again. So who was that at the door? She was stunned for a moment before she opened her eyes and looked toward the door. A tall figure was standing by the door staring at her. ‘Mason…’ Madeleine’s lips moved a little when she saw Mason as she subconsciously sat up straight to look at him. They exchanged glances and nobody said a word to break the silence, but Madeleine could see that Mason’s gaze was not the same as before. She could see the forlorn, disappointment, and a myriad of emotions mixed within his gaze. She was shocked on the inside when she saw his gaze but she had to act as if she was calm. She tried to pull a smile as she mechanically tried to get up from the sofa and walked over to Mason. She walked over to him but his gaze was still looking ahead as if he had not been looking at her earlier. Madeleine was feeling despair but she had to force a smile and said, “Is Lil Millet downstairs? I’ll go check on him.” She wanted to leave the room like a defeated general who had given up her armor. When she walked past him, he suddenly raised his arm to block her from leaving. Looking at the arm in front of her, she had no choice but to stand still and wait in silence. “Is this the reason why you repeatedly refused to let me see him?” It took Mason quite a while before he spoke. His voice was low and dry, and he spoke with much difficulty. Madeleine felt a sense of sorrow as she pressed her lips together in silence. “You knew it from the beginning?” Another question came barraging at her that she could not avoid. “Were you testing me when you asked those questions while we were abroad? “You knew already?” Madeleine bit her lower lip and said nothing, standing there like a statue. “Heh…” Mason scoffed. His tone was filled with sarcasm and mockery. “You won’t let me investigate you, I promised to that. Turns out that this is the reason. Five years, you hid the truth from me for five years. Even up till now… you still wanted to try to hide it longer?” Mason suddenly grabbed her wrist with so much force that she felt as if he was about to fracture her bones. She hissed in pain but he had already cornered her against the cold wall. “Is it fun? Everyone knows about it except this fool here who knows nothing?” “That’s not it!” “That’s not it? I’ve been hidden from the truth for five years. Do you mean that if I never came after you, you’ll never come back to see me, hiding away from me together with my son for life? I’ll be hidden from the truth forever?” Mason seemed to have lost all rational thinking. Madeleine could understand his feelings. She had indeed planned to hide Lil Millet from Mason for life if they did not get back together as she worried that Mason would snatch Lil Millet away from her. After they got back together, she was worried that Mason would be angry or disappointed at what she did. As she had expected, he was disappointed with her. Madeleine looked at the man standing in front of her. Her wrist was feeling the pain from his grip but she wanted to explain to him, thus she could only say, “It’s painful, can you just let go of me first, I’ll…” “You realize what pain is as well?” Mason mocked. “Then what do you think I’m feeling?” Madeleine frowned. “I know that you’re feeling distressed about this but I didn't hide it from you on purpose. Just let go of me first, I will explain this to you, okay?” Mason kept quiet. He did not reject her offer nor accepted it. He merely stared at her with those black eyes. After some time, he slowly released his grip. Once she had obtained freedom, she rubbed her sore wrist and bit her lower lip as she looked at Mason. “I only have one question that I want to know right now.” “Tell me about it.” “Do Quentin and Liam know about this?” Madeleine felt her heart sink. She wondered why Mason wanted to ask this all of a sudden, but she soon realized the reason. ‘Is he comparing with Liam?’ She looked at Mason with hesitation. It took her a while before she spoke. “I don’t want to lie to you. “The short answer is; Liam… knows as well.”
