Chapter 668 Let Me Think About It
After all, Liam had seen Lil Millet when they met at the supermarket.
With Liam’s intelligence, he would probably have guessed it. She suspected that he would have even hired a private investigator to check on her past as well.
That was why she guessed that Liam probably knew it.
“Oh?” Mason raised his brows. A smile appeared on his sullen face that moment but it was not a genuine smile, instead, it was creepy and chilling.
Madeleine felt that something was not right with that smile. Her heart was flustered and she quickly grabbed his sleeves without further ado.
“But it’s not like what you think it is. I didn’t tell him about it, it’s because he…”
“I don’t care how he came about to know this. The bottom line was, he still knew it before I did, while you… kept trying to hide this from me, hoping that I being the biological father would never find out about this. This is what happened, am I right?”
“I…” Madeleine had no way of refuting his claims.
Mason narrowed his eyes and stared at her fiercely, and the aura surrounding him turned icier.
“Am I right?”
Madeleine lowered her gaze. “It was like that at first, but now things are different, I…”
“Enough.”
Mason suddenly interrupted her. Not with a raging voice, but a calm voice instead, but the calmer he seemed, the more fear Madeleine felt.
“Are you… extremely disappointed with me right now? Are you going to fight with me now?”
Mason kept quiet.
“Are you going to end things between us?”
Madeleine asked again. Mason stared straight at her. “I haven’t figured out my thoughts.”
That sentence felt like a boulder on Madeleine’s heart and her lips immediately paled. “What do you mean when you say you haven’t figured it out?”
‘Does it mean that the idea did cross his mind?’
Madeleine grabbed the sleeves of his coat causing a crumple on the sleeves which she had just ironed neatly earlier. “So, what do you mean now? You said that you haven’t figured it out, does it mean that it crossed your mind? Why? Just because he is your son? Is that why you’re unhappy instead???”
Mason stood there unmoving like a statue.
Madeleine looked at his reaction and increased her grip. “Say something. Were you thinking about it? Are you thinking about ending things between us? Are you thinking about breaking up?”
Mason’s eyes shifted upon hearing the words breaking up. He looked at the beauty in front of him who had anxiety in her gaze, and that sight stabbed his heart.
It had never crossed his mind to break up with her.
Even at that moment when he realized that she had been keeping secrets from him, it never crossed his mind. This woman in front of him… was once someone who he thought he had lost, who had persistently appeared in his dreams every night for the past five years.
He had gone through obstacles to be together with her, so how could he easily ask to break up with her?
The problem was… right now… his mind and heart were in a mess.
He lowered his head and gently pried open the hands that were grabbing his sleeves.
Madeleine refused to let go in the beginning. She widened her eyes, tightened her grip, trying to resist his actions by gripping onto his sleeves tightly. Mason looked up at her and saw the tears that welled up in her eyes.
He was feeling heartbroken for her but at that moment, the feeling of betrayal was stronger than anything else. Finally, he sighed and said, “Release your grip.”
“I refuse.” Madeleine looked at him with teary eyes. “Are you going to abandon me once I let go?”
She asked with trepidation. Mason looked at her and suddenly chuckled mockingly. “You’ve come to a day where you’re afraid of losing me?”
Madeleine widened her eyes. The tears that welled up in her eyes remained there.
She had beautiful eyes, and now with the tears, the watery shimmer made her eyes look dreamy like the surface of a blue lake that was surrounded by mist.
She shook her head. “Please don’t be angry, okay? The situation… isn’t like what you thought it is.”
Both of them went through ups and downs to finally get together, were they going to break up because of this matter?
All this while, Mason was the one taking the initiative to chase after her. On the surface, it seemed as if she was the winner and he was the loser in their relationship.
Only Madeleine knew that in a relationship… There was no winner or loser.
Even if Mason had been the active party all this while, her heart had always been moving toward him as well, and Madeleine was well aware of it.
Besides, she had never stopped loving him all these years.
Finally, Mason still removed his sleeves from Madeleine’s grip. By the time she found her hands empty, he had already taken a few steps back.
“Let me think about it.”
Mason looked into her eyes and said word for word, “My mind is in a mess now.”
Madeleine’s lips moved. “By the time you’ve thought things through… is that when you’ll break up with me?”
Mason frowned when he heard that.
“I never said such things.”
“Then why are you acting like this? Isn’t it good that Lil Millet is your son? I thought that… even if you get angry at me, at least you’d still feel happy about it. I didn’t expect that…”
‘Your anger would be so great that it overshadowed everything else.
‘Had I miscalculated?’
“Let me think about it.”
Mason repeated himself. Madeleine felt as if all the energy had been extracted out of her. She closed her eyes and slumped against the wall. “Okay, since you want to think about it, then I’ll let you think about it.”
Her surroundings gradually quieten once again. After a long while, she opened her eyes once again and emptiness greeted her. Mason was nowhere to be seen.
She knew that this was probably going to happen but when she saw that he was no longer standing in front of her, she felt utterly disappointed as well. Her legs gave way and she felt that she could not stand straight, thus she slid along the wall onto the floor to sit.
The cold floor felt extraordinarily chilly tonight which made it uncomfortable for her to sit too long and because of her troubled mind, she was reminded of something and quickly went downstairs.
It was empty downstairs as well except for a plate of fruits on the table.
Madeleine stood there in a daze for a moment before she realized it.
‘Lil Millet…
‘Where is Lil Millet?’
She ran upstairs that instant to look for Lil Millet but she found nobody, instead, the noise drew Iris’s attention and she came out.
“What’s the matter?”
Madeleine hurried over when she saw Iris.
“Have you seen Lil Millet? Is he in your room?”
“What do you mean?” Iris was puzzled. “Isn’t Lil Millet downstairs? Why are you…”
Iris widened her eyes halfway through her sentence and looked at Madeleine in disbelief.
“Could it be…”
She dared not complete her sentence and covered her mouth with her hand as she looked at Madeleine.
After a while, she lowered her hand.
“Madeleine, Lil Millet…”
Madeleine stood there with a wry smile.
“Probably his daddy took him away.”
“Then what should we do? Should we… go over to get him back? Or perhaps, I should give your brother a call right now?”
Iris immediately took out her phone. She had just tapped into her phone book when Madeleine stopped her.
“Don’t call.”
‘Mason is already angry at me. If I call Quentin for help now, what would Mason… think of me then?’
