“Here’s the latest reports from the import services subsidiary of the Blackwood corpoaration, Mr Blackwood,”
I pretended not to see the questioning look that Eleanor had on as she passed me the ipad.
I owed her no explanation. She has worked for me long enough to know her boundaries. She wouldn’t ask questions, nor would she offer unsolicited opinions.
That was one of the reasons I kept her around—discretion was a rare quality, and Eleanor had it in spades.
She left the private dining area without a word, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
The restaurant was silent, the kind of silence money could buy. I’d made sure of that by reserving the entire place. Privacy wasn’t just a preference—it was a necessity.
The private section of the restaurant was designed with understated elegance: dark wood panels, dim lighting that cast warm glows over the table settings, and plush leather chairs that seemed to swallow you whole.
