Leslie smiled sweetly. "Grandma, temper like that really isn't good for your health."
Her gaze stayed locked on Matilda's mouth.
Matilda had always taken pride in her looks. Back in the day, she was known for her beauty. But now, age and a stroke had left her mouth slightly crooked. Because of that, she'd been avoiding social gatherings-she hated dealing with people's staring.
Seeing Leslie openly staring at her mouth only made Matilda more annoyed. She frowned. "No manners at all! So this is how the Green family raises their daughters?"

Lillian tried to smooth things over. "Grandma Ackerley, don't be upset. She's Leslie, after all..."
It sounded like she was defending Leslie, but it left people feeling... off.
