“Hi, Oliver. Thank you for the roses, but you didn’t have to send me flowers,” I said, keeping my tone polite.

“I had to,” Oliver said. “Mr. Cole told me I was the only one who met your standards from the list. I should make a good impression.”
My brows drew together. “What?”
“Uh… are you free tomorrow?” he continued, his tone turning more careful. “I’d like to invite you to dinner, if that’s alright.”
