Chapter 4117
Darren stopped walking.
Caroline stopped as well.
“What’s wrong?” Caroline looked at him. “You don’t want to follow my plan?”
“I’ll do whatever you ask of me. It’s just, could we delay it for a couple of days? I’m worried…”
“Darren.” Caroline’s expression turned serious. “Trust me! And trust yourself. I have the ability to protect myself, and you have the ability to protect me too. I might get hurt, but I won’t be in any life-threatening danger.”
She glanced at Liberty and Duncan walking ahead, both had not noticed that the two behind had stopped. The distance between them had widened.
Taking advantage of Liberty and Duncan’s oblivion, Caroline quickly cupped Darren’s face, tiptoed, and kissed his warm lips.
Darren immediately tightened his arms around her, turning his passiveness into action, and deepening the kiss. The two were clearly in love, but Darren never took the initiative in intimate gestures. It was always Caroline who made the first move.
In Darren’s eyes, Caroline was the person he would protect for a lifetime, his master. He always remained respectful and reverent in her presence. If he took the initiative, he would feel as though he was overstepping and disrespecting his master.
However, if Caroline initiated, then he would not hold back.
After the passionate kiss ended, Caroline’s breathing was slightly uneven.
Darren held her close, letting her lean against his chest to catch her breath.
“Darren, I want to marry you soon,” Caroline whispered softly.
“Once we resolve this issue, I won’t have to split my attention anymore and can focus on handing things over to Liberty. Once she’s on stable footing, we can leave, and then we can get married.
“The longer this issue goes unresolved, the longer I won’t be at peace. Even if we get married, I won’t be able to ever be fully at ease.”
Darren gently caressed her face, his eyes filled with tenderness. He promised her with deep emotion, “Alright, I’ll follow your plan and I’ll make sure your life will not be threatened.”
If anything were to happen to her, he would not want to go on living either.
After all, in life and in death, he belonged to Caroline; they would be together forever.
Liberty, who was further up ahead, turned to look back.
Caroline quickly pulled Darren forward, saying, “It’s settled then. This afternoon, I’ll accompany Liberty and Mr. Lewis to visit Mr. Donald. You don’t need to come, I’ll have the bodyguards follow me.”
“Alright.” Darren knew that once she made a decision, he could not change it.
In the afternoon, Caroline, accompanied by several bodyguards, went with Liberty and Duncan to visit the Queens and meet with Donald.
The Queens and the Yorks were now already connected by marriage. The Hunts and the Yorks were also connected by marriage, so Liberty had close ties with the Queens as well.
Darren was not by Caroline’s side.
On the next day, which was a Monday, everyone went back to work or school.
The employees of Fisher Enterprise still did not see Darren accompanying Caroline and for several days in a row, Darren was nowhere to be seen.
Caroline told everyone that Darren was on a business trip. She had sent him to another province to handle some matters for her, and it would likely take ten days to half a month before he returned.
This piece of news eventually reached the ears of Adrian and his brothers.
