I sneered. "Ms. Johnson lost her own necklace, yet she expects the rest of us to be searched like criminals? Even enforcers need a warrant for that, and all she has to do is say a few words?"
Then I turned to Grace and said, "You are being incredibly rude, Ms. Johnson."
The guests quickly started murmuring in agreement.
"Yes, I don't agree. Who even cares about your necklace? It's cheap."
"If it really matters to you, I can buy you a new one, Ms. Johnson, but please don't waste our time."
"I'm not a criminal. Why should I be searched? Even if your father were here, he wouldn't have the right to demand this."
Grace's expression darkened. She shot me a glare full of disgust and snapped, "No, that's not what I meant!"
Her chest rose and fell sharply, betraying her anger, but she quickly eased her tone to soothe the guests.
