My urgent mind-link to the recruits had them scrambling to the main office in the mansion. I deliberately avoided contacting my father and godfather. They will turn up later, regardless of whether I call on them. I'm sleep deprived, clutching Kurt's letter in my hand. After reassuring Martha that this wasn't her fault, I re-read the letter a dozen times. Is it bad to say that I feel a little relieved? Ryan did not walk out on Chastity and their unborn child. The boys did not leave because they were fed up with the family. All those months of trying to figure out why they had abandoned ship, wondering how to reassure a pregnant Chastity that it wasn't her fau< it's all irrelevant. "I know it's early." I begin, gently shutting the door and accepting Omar's offer of coffee. "But, we're in a state of emergency. Reese and Ryan were taken by vampires." My voice is surprisingly steady. The recruits simply look at me, expressions becoming horrified at my announcement.
