Chapter 280
The next day, Loid got up at dawn to make breakfast. Michael's visit to Anmer Heights was clearly a test for Loid.
Under normal circumstances, he would eat meals prepared by the chef with Lily. But now, he had to personally cook. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Loid had to win over Michael to marry Lily in the future.
These days, Lily had been focused on developing the antidote for the Mindshroud poison. This alleviated her insomnia. Last night, Loid stayed up until she fell asleep, and she slept well.
Lily went straight to the kitchen when she got up. She already anticipated that Loid would get up early to cook. His dishes were usually light, which suited Michael's taste.
Michael usually woke up early and had already smelled the aroma of the food.
Yolanda, who also woke up early, heard the commotion in the kitchen. When she reached the kitchen door, she froze in place. She couldn't believe that Loid was actually cooking. And it was for that poor country bumpkin.
Yolanda couldn't accept that. She couldn't accept that the man she idolized was wearing an apron and cooking for another girl.
A perfect man like him should be a noble gentleman, waiting to be served by others. Yolanda watched this scene in fury. Her nails dug into her flesh, yet she felt no pain. She glared at Lily with resentment, gritting her teeth.
Lily had ruined her image of Loid as her crush, and Yolanda would never forgive her for that.
Loid made some food for Yolanda as well. Unlike Shannon, he still owed a favor to Agnes. He then personally served mushroom risotto to Michael. "Mr. Morris, please try this."
Loid and Lily usually had a simple breakfast of a glass of milk and a slice of bread. But with Michael here, they couldn't be so casual. So, Loid prepared a more elaborate meal.
Michael took a spoon of the risotto and squinted his eyes. "Not bad. Keep it up."
Lily glanced at Michael indifferently. He clearly enjoyed the meal but was too proud to even say something nice.
Watching them enjoy a harmonious meal, the anger that Yolanda had managed to suppress flared up again. However, she had learned her lesson. Knowing that a direct confrontation with Lily wouldn't win Loid's support, she reined in her emotions.
Michael looked up and glanced at Yolanda. He asked leisurely, "Whose child are you?" Since she was an old family friend of the Lauriers, she had to have a good background.
Yolanda hadn't expected Michael to speak to her and was momentarily stunned. However, Michael was Lily's mentor. So, Yolanda didn't have to have a good attitude toward him. She raised her head proudly and boasted, "I'm the daughter of the hidden Albott family."
She expected Michael to be surprised, astonished, or even scared. But to her disappointment, he showed no reaction at all.
"So, you're the granddaughter of that old rascal, Sam?" Michael snorted twice. "That old rascal still owes me a life debt. And he dares let his granddaughter come and steal my precious apprentice's fiancé? Tell him not to worry. I'll be coming to settle the score with him."
Yolanda was instantly dumbfounded. Sam Albott was the head of the Albotts and her grandfather. Sam was the patriarch of the Albott family, and no one dared to disobey him. He decided the fate of many in the Albott family.
In Yolanda's mind, Sam was a very powerful person. But now, he was being dismissed so lightly by Michael, a poor old man.
Loid hadn't expected Michael to be so dismissive of the Albotts either. It seemed that the Albotts were insignificant to Michael.
