Chapter 281
Loid turned his head and glanced at Lily leisurely. "I didn't expect Mr. Morris to be so discreet." His voice was so soft that only Lily could hear.
She looked up, took a bite of the mushroom risotto, and said calmly, "I guess so." Michael had told her many things. But he had always skimmed over his background, never going into detail.
It was only when they visited the Weiss family that Qillian brought it up. That was when Lily realized how extraordinary Michael's identity was. At least, during the time when the Weiss family was in power, Michael was a person they respected.
The Albott family rose to prominence later on. Although the Weiss family had fallen from their former glory, the Albott family's status still couldn't compare to the Weiss family. Naturally, Michael didn't think much of the Albotts.
"You… How can you speak about my grandfather like that? You're simply…" Yolanda pointed at Michael. Her eyes brimmed with tears, and her lips were pressed tightly together as she exclaimed, "Rude!"
Michael burst into laughter. "I've lived for so many years. This is the first time someone has accused me of being rude. Girl, go back and ask your grandfather if he dares to say that about me."
"You!" Yolanda shouted. Her face turned ashen with anger, but she couldn't say a word.
She wasn't stupid. She could naturally hear that Michael and Sam knew each other. If this old man was truly someone even Sam couldn't afford to offend, she would be bringing trouble to her family.
Thinking of this, Yolanda was furious. No wonder Lily was so arrogant; she had such an old man backing her up. Yolanda seethed alone. Meanwhile, Loid, Lily, and Michael ignored her.
After breakfast, Loid took Lily and Yolanda to school. This time, Yolanda learned her lesson and went straight to the back seat.
The journey was silent.
…
At Ember Creek High School, Class 1 of the 12th grade, Poppy was reading a book. Just then, Shelby walked up to her, knocked on her desk, and said arrogantly, "Poppy Graham, go clean up the classroom."
Poopy looked up and glanced at Shelby indifferently. "I'm not on duty today"
"Oh? What did I just hear? You dare talk back to me?" Shelby acted as if she had heard a joke. She picked her ear and waited for Poppy to repeat herself.
Poppy and Lily had always deliberately kept their distance at school. They hardly ever talked to each other. Plus, Poppy was usually timid and rarely spoke to others, so she often got bullied by Shelby.
Poppy put down her book, looked up seriously at Shelby, and said, "I said, I'm not on duty today."
With that, Shelby gave Poppy a tight smack on the head and yelled angrily, "Who do you think you are, talking to me like that? If I tell you to clean, you clean. A bastard like you doesn't deserve to be in our class!"
Not far away, Beatrice saw this and turned to Bobby, asking, "Your sister is being bullied. Aren't you gonna do something?"
Bobby glanced up, then lowered his head and continued reading. He didn't even say a word.
Beatrice was furious. "Is studying all you can do? You're literally a nerd." But Bobby remained silent. Unable to stand it, Beatrice slammed the table, stood up angrily, and shouted, "Shelby Martinez, you can't bully members of our family as you please!"
Shelby didn't expect Beatrice to stand up for Poppy and was momentarily stunned. "Beatrice, why are you suddenly defending her?"
"Why shouldn't I? She's a member of the Lane family. Who do you think you are to touch her?" Beatrice asked bluntly.
"I…" Fearing Beatrice, Shelby could only grit her teeth and glare at Poppy. "Just you wait."
As she was about to leave, Poppy suddenly called out, "Wait!"
Just as Shelby was about to turn around, Poppy raised her hand and smacked her on the head. A loud smack echoed across the room. She slowly retracted his gaze and said coldly, "No one who hits me stays standing."
