People always say the hands are connected to the heart—it's true. The moment his fingers touched hers, a tingly numbness raced through Lilah's body, making her flinch and yank her hand back.
"Still mad at me?" Gabriel asked, gently ruffling her hair with that spoiled kind of affection.
This man had never sweet-talked a woman in his life, but when it came to his wife, he was giving it everything he had.
"I told you, I'm not mad," Lilah insisted stubbornly. She slid out of his arms and turned to Aiden. "Aiden, don't eat too much, yeah? Dinner's almost ready."
"Okay, mommy. I'll just finish this one," Aiden replied while gnawing on a drumstick, his cheeks puffed up like a little hamster.
Gabriel watched them with a half-smile. But soon, his eyes settled on Lilah. "You really not gonna have a bite?"
She glanced at him, said nothing, then reached over and poked around the bucket of fried chicken.
Eventually, she slipped on gloves, fished out a spicy wing, and took a bite.
