Chapter 181 Why Are You Bullying Him Again?

Zelda's eyes widened in disbelief. "Wait... what? He's your man? But aren't you already married? Is he the legendary husband you've always talked about?" Yvette stood there, her expression unreadable. Zelda seemed to realize something and awkwardly swallowed, then forced out a few dry laughs. "Oh, so you're Mr. Yates! I'm sorry, Ms. Jenning. I was just talking nonsense earlier. Of course, I'm not saying he's bad either. "Ms. Jenning, you really do have an eye for talent. Mr. Yates is truly great... I..." Yvette shot Zelda a cold look, silencing her immediately. Zelda pressed her lips together and made a zipping gesture. Her chubby face and pudgy fingers only added to the cuteness. I stood where I was with a raised eyebrow, watching Yvette and Zelda speaking in hushed tones. When I saw Zelda's face turn pale and how panicked she looked, I wanted to laugh out loud. I recalled that both the Wood and Jenning families were among the most powerful in the country. Why, then, did Zelda appear so meek and even scared in front of Yvette? Weren't they supposed to be on equal footing? I reminded myself that the wealthy often valued bloodlines and influence above all else. Zelda, after all, was just a spoiled heir, so I couldn't expect too much from her. As these thoughts crossed my mind, Yvette stepped closer to me. She moved so quickly that I instinctively looked down, startled. When she suddenly leaned in, my heart skipped a beat, and I took two steps back. That was when things went wrong. My left foot tripped over my right, and I almost fell down. But Yvette was quick, grabbing my arm and pulling me back. I ended up falling straight into her arms. Her familiar, distinct scent overwhelmed my senses. I stiffened, then immediately pushed her away and stood up straight. Yvette remained standing in front of me, one hand casually tucked into her pocket. She was staring at me with a cold gaze. "I'm not going to eat you. Why do you keep avoiding me?" I hadn't meant to avoid her. I wasn't afraid of her—it was just that my body instinctively reacted to her closeness. I didn't want her near me, or perhaps it was because I feared what might happen if she got too close. I locked eyes with her, my voice steady. "I'm avoiding you because you crossed my boundaries and got too close." Peter, standing to the side, was confused. His eyes flitted between me and Yvette, sensing that something was off. "Ms. Jenning—" Yvette didn't even spare him a glance. Her attention was entirely fixed on me. Zelda, noticing the tension, quickly understood what was going on. She moved swiftly and pulled Peter aside. "Hey, handsome. I have a question for you," Zelda said to Peter. A baffled Peter was dragged away by Zelda. "Hey, I don't even know you. Let go of me. I can walk on my own." Zelda continued to persuade Peter, flashing me a grin as she did, "I'll definitely help with the advertisement. Just don't forget to give me that USB flash drive sometime." With a quick glance at Yvette, Zelda led Peter away, muttering under her breath as they left, "If I hadn't forgotten to ask for Mr. Yates' contact info, I wouldn't have bothered with you. Honestly, can't you see that the couple needs to talk?" I frowned when I saw Peter being dragged away by Zelda. I was about to step forward to follow them, as I still had to give Peter the things I had bought for Nancy so he could take them back. Then, I could catch my flight. With Peter leaving, I had to keep the items. Just then, I felt a sudden weight on my wrist. Yvette had grabbed it tightly, preventing me from leaving. I turned to face her. She raised her head and began scanning me up and down. "Nancy said you were beaten. Where were you hurt?" Nancy! I ground my teeth in frustration, cursing inwardly. No wonder Yvette had suddenly shown up here. It was all because that scheming woman, Nancy, had told her. However, still frowning, I looked at the woman who seemed to care about me. I couldn't help but sneer. "Did Nancy only mention that I was beaten but forget to say that the person who hit me was Randall? Do you think I'm the type to let myself be wronged? I pushed his head into a fish tank on the spot and almost drowned him. "If you really want to show concern for someone, go check on him. I don't need your sympathy,." Yvette was left speechless. She furrowed her brows and said, "Why are you bullying him again?" Again? My nerves were slightly rattled. So, Yvette really didn't know that I had been arguing with Randall. No wonder she came to check on me. If she knew the truth, she would be visiting Randall now instead. I gave her a mocking glance and forcefully shook her hand off. "Honestly, I don't understand. Since you're so protective of Randall, thinking that whenever something happens to him, it's because he's being bullied, why don't you just marry him? "You couldn't wait to go pick him up after we divorced. So, why not marry him now and stop bothering me? How can you be so shameless?" Yvette's frown deepened, and she said, clearly upset, "What do you mean 'pick him up?' After we divorced, I went on a business trip and have been busy ever since. Don't forget that just a few days ago, you were still in my bed." I didn't believe a word of her excuses, and the sarcastic smile on my face grew wider. Randall was never the type to fool around with women. Handsome men and luxury cars clearly suited Yvette's style, not his. "Keep pretending. Even if you didn't pick him up, I bet you thought of marrying him. You bought him a house abroad—that's your way of showing commitment. You never wanted to remarry me," I retorted. The house-buying incident had happened both in this life and the last, and now I was curious to see how she would try to explain it away. Yvette's face hardened, and her expression turned cold. She stared at me, her voice icy as she said, "Yes, I did buy him a house, but that was because you hit his roommate and almost… You know the situation. You were there. His reputation at school plummeted, and if he didn't move out, he might have been killed by all the cyberbullying."
