Chapter 76 Bad Company
Cressida lifted her gaze to him and suddenly chuckled. It was a soft chuckle, unreadable and stripped of warmth.
"I don't need a man. After all, I won't be alive much longer anyway."
Tristan's hand suddenly paused mid-swirling his wine glass. The trace of amusement on his face sank little by little.
Silence settled over the office, broken only by the steady hum of the air conditioner.
Cressida said nothing more. She just looked at him with a blank expression.
"Don't talk nonsense." He set the glass down and walked over, stopping right in front of her. "I'll take you home.'
Cressida shook her head, stepping back to put some distance between them. "No need. I can manage."
She turned and made for the door.
"I'll check in on your grandmother." His voice drifted over from behind, causing Cressida to stop in her tracks.
"It's late," he added. "I won't feel at ease for an elderly woman to be all alone in that rundown rental apartment."
