Chapter 1122
Upon hearing Rickard's words, Hesper turned her head and glanced at Pierette.
Seeing that she had been exposed, Pierette stopped pretending to sleep and slowly sat up. Looking at the two before her, Pierette arched her eyebrows playfully.
"Hello, my sister's son and his wife," she said with a smirk.
She had deceived them the moment they met; Hesper became even more cautious towards her.
The woman before her was entirely different from the one she had seen at Quincey's place. She was dangerous.
"We're not here to catch up," Hesper said after composing herself. "Tell us what really happened back then. Why did Rickard's mother leave the Savatiers, and what is your connection to the hallucinogenic drug?"
Suddenly, a thought struck Hesper, and she reached out to check Pierette's pulse.
Frowning, she realized that there were no traces of the hallucinogenic toxin in her body, and she seemed to be in perfect health.
Stretching lazily, Pierette turned her gaze towards Hesper. "Little girl, I've heard about you during this period. You're very clever and capable, and I admire you. With you by Rickard's side, my sister's spirit in heaven must be pleased."
Hesper had not expected Piertte to directly mention Brigette's death right off the bat. She looked over at Rickard, but he did not seem particularly surprised, as if he had known this for a long time.
Indeed, Hesper had never thought she could hide it from Rickard.
Nevertheless, now that it was brought up, she could not help but feel a sense of sadness. If not for Pierette, they could have maintained the facade of peacefulness for a little longer.
"Do not divert the topic with our background." Hesper regained her composure, frowning as she gazed at Pierette before her. "The hallucinogenic drug in your body has already been neutralized. Yet, on this island, so many people, including your father, the esteemed head of the Savatiers, haven't been able to find a solution. How dare you say that it isn't your fault?"
Pierette smiled, meeting Hesper's gaze unwaveringly. "I admit you are a clever young girl, but that's as far as it goes. As for the hallucinogenic drug, it's more complex than you could've ever imagined. It's best that you not meddle in it, as it'll only bring you unnecessary troubles."
In other words, Pierette knew a lot about the hallucinogenic drug, but she was not willing to divulge the information to the two of them.
Hesper clenched her teeth, reminding herself to stay calm and not be led by the nose by Pierette.
She realized that Pierette's words had an unexpectedly significant impact on her.
Normally, Hesper would remain composed. Even if someone deliberately tried to provoke her, she would immediately regain her self-control and adjust her state of mind.
Hesper carefully sniffed the fragrance in the room and frowned, realizing something was amiss. "You've added something to the essential oil that makes people feel restless."
Pierette was surprised that Hesper noticed it. "It seems that the rumors about your abilities were true. I thought my father said that just to make it easier for you to establish your position outside."
Pierette's condescending tone irritated Hesper, but she quickly understood that the essential oil was amplifying all her emotions. She swiftly regained her composure, shaking her head to try to stay clear-headed.
"Don't think you can disturb my emotions." Hesper took a deep breath and continued. "The matter concerning the hallucinogenic drug is of utmost importance to both of us. I won't let a mere influence from some drug deter me from seeking answers."
