Chapter 139: Going to the Hospital
Elaine looked at the food on the table and felt nauseous again.
She apologized to Katrina and Simon, "I'm feeling a bit unwell and might need to go to the hospital for a check-up. Sorry, I can't accompany you."
Katrina immediately stood up, "What are you saying? I'll take you there."
Elaine waved her hand quickly, "It's not a big problem, I'll go by myself. The food has just arrived, don't waste it, I'll be very upset if it goes to waste."
Hearing Elaine's words, Katrina didn't know what else to say. She knew Elaine would feel guilty if she questioned her further.
She could only remind Elaine, "If you have any problems, be sure to message me."
Elaine nodded and left the restaurant with her bag.
Wesley saw Elaine leave, and his heart sank.
Regardless of what Bella said afterward, he just nodded absentmindedly.
Finally, after finishing the meal, Wesley lied about having urgent work at the company and sent Bella home alone.
Recalling Wesley's strange behavior during dinner, Bella thought he might indeed have work issues.
Thinking about how Wesley insisted on staying to have dinner with her even though he seemed unwell, Bella felt even more affectionate towards him.
But what she didn't expect was for Wesley to drive straight to the nearest hospital as soon as she got into her car.
Sure enough, he found Elaine in the queue at the hospital.
Because she didn't know what caused her vomiting, Elaine decided to get a full-body check-up to find out. However, there were too many patients at the hospital, making it difficult for her to get checked up quickly.
Seeing Elaine's frail figure among the crowd, Wesley felt extremely distressed.
He hurried over, took Elaine's hand, and pulled her out of the line.
"Come with me," he said firmly, his grip on Elaine's slender wrist gentle yet strong.
Elaine tried to free herself twice but failed, so she had no choice but to go along with him.
Leading Elaine, Wesley went straight to the top floor and knocked on the door of the director's office.
"Check her body quickly," Wesley ordered.
The director, who was about to get angry while putting on his glasses, swallowed his words when he saw Wesley and hurried to Elaine's side, asking, "Miss, what seems to be the problem? This will help me tailor the examination to your needs."
It was the first time Elaine had encountered such a situation, with a man staring at her so intently by her side.
Feeling that she might have overreacted, Elaine whispered, "I just felt nauseous today, inexplicably dry heaving, nothing else."
The director, upon hearing this, subconsciously looked at Elaine's abdomen and then asked, "Is your menstruation normal this month?"
Elaine shook her head, "My periods have always been irregular."
Wesley's expression changed instantly. Could it be because of what happened in the car last time?
Counting the days, it seemed to match.
Thinking that Elaine might be pregnant with his child, Wesley's lips slowly curled up.
With this, Elaine should be able to accept him gradually, right? After all, he was the father of the child.
The director immediately ordered the top gynecologist to examine Elaine.
Watching Elaine enter the gynecological examination room, Wesley felt an inexplicable nervousness.
After a while, Elaine came out, and the examination results were quickly sent to Wesley's hands.
The final result of the examination was that Elaine was pregnant!
Elaine stole a glance at Wesley, coincidentally meeting his gaze.
She immediately said, "It's not yours, don't worry."
Wesley's face turned black in an instant. "What do you mean? Besides me, have you been with someone else?"
Hearing his words, Elaine was extremely annoyed and asked back, "So what if I have? We have nothing to do with each other. Why can't I be with someone else?"
Wesley snorted, "Elaine, you're very capable."
Elaine replied, "I've always been."
Wesley turned around and left in anger, leaving Elaine alone in the hospital.
She thought for a long time and decided to take the child away from New York, away from the Howard family. She didn't want her child to grow up in such a family like Wesley did, nor did she want her child to become as heartless as Wesley.
At this moment, Elaine received a call from Charlotte.
"I'll be in New York in a few days for a business deal. If you're free, come pick me up," Charlotte said without any politeness.
Elaine: ...I'm busy.
"Don't refuse me. I'll make you do something you hate. Play the role of your sister well, and I'll give you the greatest freedom," Charlotte said as if she knew what Elaine wanted to say, blocking all of Elaine's retreat.
After thinking for a while, Elaine touched her belly and said to Charlotte, "Charlotte, I'm pregnant."
There was silence on the other end for a while. After a long time, Charlotte cursed and then asked, "Who's the father? Wesley? Elaine, haven't I warned you to stay away from that man?"
Elaine didn't respond to Charlotte's words and continued, "The child is mine alone, and I will make sure he is born safely."
Charlotte was furious. "Elaine! Are you even listening to me?!"
Elaine calmly replied, "I heard you. I can't pick you up. I'm busy making a custom wedding dress recently and don't have time to pick you up. Besides, I'm staying at a friend's house now, and there's no room for you here."
Charlotte gritted her teeth, "Make sure that friend isn't Wesley."
Elaine was stunned for a moment and replied, "Of course not. Oh, by the way, the wedding dress I'm working on now was ordered by his fiancée."
As she said this, Elaine felt a slight pain in her heart.
But even if it hurt, it wasn't as painful as losing her life for the first time.
"Elaine, everything you're saying to me better be true, or I'll make you pay for deceiving me," Charlotte warned Elaine.
Elaine had heard such warnings from Charlotte countless times during her time in Hua Country. Every time, Charlotte would say the same thing, but this lunatic had never really done anything unbearable.
"There's nothing else, I'm hanging up. I need to save money to support my child," Elaine said, decisively hanging up the phone.
Charlotte was dumbfounded on the other end: She felt that something was off about Elaine, but she couldn't pinpoint what it was.
But one thing she was sure of: Since Elaine didn't mention the father of the child, it must be Wesley.
After all, since he had known Elaine, she had made it clear that she wasn't someone who would be with just anyone. During this time, she hadn't had any other boyfriends, so if she hadn't been raped, the father of the child must be Wesley.
