Chapter 138: Wesley's Engagement Banquet
Beta blushed and felt her heart racing, but she couldn't do anything about it.
Meanwhile, Elaine had been working day and night ever since she took on Beta's business. In just three days, she had already created the prototype of the wedding dress.
As Elaine admired her masterpiece, a wave of nausea hit her unexpectedly.
It was different from the discomfort after drinking alcohol; Elaine had never experienced this before.
Trying to hold back the nausea, Elaine quickly got up and ran to the bathroom, lifting the toilet seat and dry heaving.
Since she hadn't eaten anything all day, nothing came out.
Dizziness from the dry heaving made Elaine almost lose her balance when she stood up again.
Just as she steadied herself, she heard the sound of a door lock in the living room, followed by the sound of the door opening.
As soon as Simon entered, he saw Elaine coming out of the bathroom, her face pale.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling okay?" Simon asked with concern.
Elaine shook her head. "It's nothing, just been indoors all day, working on the wedding dress in my room. It's a bit stuffy."
As she spoke, Elaine asked, "And you? How was your day? Any progress?"
At the mention of this, Simon visibly brightened. "Of course, I've made progress! She's agreed!"
Elaine found it hard to believe. She had never expected Simon to win Beta over, mainly because she couldn't imagine Beta being interested in someone like Simon, who seemed like a younger brother type.
"Congratulations," Elaine said.
Simon immediately said, "To celebrate my first step towards success, let me treat you both to dinner. Let's invite Katrina as well."
Elaine hadn't seen Katrina for a few days and missed her, so she agreed without hesitation. "Sure, I'll call her now."
An hour later, the three of them met at a restaurant.
To celebrate, Simon ordered many expensive dishes.
When Katrina heard about Simon's "good news," she was happy too. However, like Elaine, she never expected someone like Beta to be interested in someone like Simon.
As they waited for their food, two people entered the restaurant.
Elaine had her back to the door, so she didn't see them, but Katrina, with her sharp eyes, recognized Wesley immediately.
And there was Bella with him, whom she had seen in the news a few days ago.
Cursing inwardly, Katrina prayed: Wesley, please don't come over here. Don't let Elaine see this scene.
Katrina knew Elaine still had feelings for Wesley, so she didn't want him to affect Elaine's mood.
But unfortunately, things didn't go as Katrina hoped. Just as she was praying, Bella led Wesley straight to their table.
"Nora? It's really you! I thought I was seeing things, but it's such a coincidence to meet you here for dinner. We're really destined to meet," Bella said with a smile, friendly greeting Elaine.
Elaine turned around when she heard someone calling her, meeting Wesley's gaze, then quickly shifted her focus to Bella.
"What a coincidence, Miss Bella," Elaine said, standing up politely to shake hands with Bella, then coolly addressing Wesley behind her, "We meet again, Mr. Wesley."
Wesley felt uncomfortable being addressed like that by Elaine and couldn't help but furrow his brow.
Seeing this, Bella quickly apologized to Elaine, "Miss Nora, please don't misunderstand. My fiancé isn't feeling well, he didn't mean to be rude to you, and he certainly doesn't dislike you."
Elaine nodded slightly, "Hmm, I don't mind. I still have to accompany my friends. Shall we chat next time?"
Elaine's magnanimity didn't surprise Bella, who said goodbye to Elaine and then turned to Wesley, "Let's go upstairs."
Wesley hesitated, glancing at the empty table next to them, and asked, "Is anyone sitting here?"
The waiter hurried over and said, "No one has reserved this table, sir."
Wesley looked at Bella, "Then let's sit here."
Katrina watched the whole scene and couldn't help whispering to Elaine, "What's he up to? Why does he insist on sitting next to us?"
Elaine shook her head, "I don't know, and I don't care."
As the two whispered, the food cart arrived at their table.
"Wow, smells amazing," Katrina's attention was instantly drawn to the delicious food.
Bella, at the neighboring table, couldn't help but admire it too, "This restaurant is really good! The food looks great!"
Elaine, however, didn't seem right when she smelled the food.
Katrina thought she was upset because Wesley and Bella were sitting next to them, so she was about to comfort her. But unexpectedly, Elaine suddenly stood up.
"You guys go ahead and eat. I need to use the bathroom," Elaine said quickly, rushing towards the bathroom.
God knows, as soon as she smelled those aromas, the nausea that had been suppressed came rushing back.
Wesley watched Elaine hurriedly leave, his expression turning serious.
Thinking Wesley might not be feeling well, Bella quickly said, "Just hold on a bit longer. Our food will be here soon."
She also urged the waiter, "Please hurry up, my fiancé's stomach isn't feeling well."
Actually, it wasn't Bella's fault. Every time Wesley looked uncomfortable, Bella thought it was a stomachache. In her eyes, it was the CEO's chronic illness. And every time, she would offer Wesley some food, which he never refused, confirming Bella's speculation.
But this time, Wesley stood up and said to Bella, "Sorry, I need to use the restroom."
Without waiting for Bella to respond, he left the table on his own.
Elaine dry heaved for a long time again, but nothing came out, making her feel extremely uncomfortable.
Her current life was given to her by her sister, so she cherished it even more. With this in mind, she decided to go to the hospital tomorrow for a full-body checkup.
After washing her hands, Elaine just stepped out when she bumped into a solid wall.
"Ah, I'm really sorry, I wasn't looking," Elaine apologized, then heard a familiar voice.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Following the voice, a strong arm wrapped around her waist.
Elaine quickly pushed him away, lowering her head, "I'm fine, thank you, Mr. Wesley, for your concern. I'm sorry for bumping into you just now. If there's nothing else, I'll go back first. My friends are waiting for me, and your fiancée is waiting for you."
Wesley grabbed Elaine's wrist again, "I heard you dry heaving inside. Are you really okay?"
Elaine shook her head, "I'm going to the hospital myself. Thank you for your concern."
Wesley persisted, "When are you going? I'll take you."
Elaine glanced at Wesley, coldly saying, "No need, my body is my own, I know how to take care of it. Thanks for your concern."
Wesley explained hastily, "That's not what I meant. I just... I'm just
afraid something might happen to you again."
"My body is my own, I know how to take care of it. Thanks for your concern," Elaine said and bypassed Wesley, ignoring him.
Helpless, Wesley returned to the table to silently watch Elaine.
Seeing Wesley return, Bella happily introduced him to the restaurant's signature dishes.
Elaine listened to the laughter and chatter from the next table, a bitter smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
Katrina had noticed Elaine's unusual behavior and asked, "What's wrong? Is your heart acting up again? Did Wesley come to see you just now? He seemed in a hurry when he left."
Elaine shook her head, "I'm fine. We just bumped into each other on the way."
Katrina nodded, not suspecting Elaine's words, and quickly urged her to start dinner.
