Chapter 266
Belinda headed to the hospital fully prepared.
The First Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Upon swiping the medical card, the doctor looked at the words 'Belinda' displayed on the computer and, as was customary, asked, "Do you recall the date of your last period?"
Belinda couldn't remember. She said, "Wait a moment, let me check."
In her phone, she had downloaded a women's app that recorded her previous period's date. After looking through it, Belinda said, "The third of last month."
Now it was the end of the month, the doctor said, "Around seven to eight weeks. You can undergo an ultrasound examination."
While saying this she handed the patient card back to Belinda's manager who was accompanying her, "You can go pay the fee."
Then she got up and told Belinda, "I will take you up for the ultrasound scan."
The doctor volunteering to accompany Belinda was unexpected, considering the swarm of people in the waiting queue.
Noticing their surprise, the doctor explained, "After all, Miss Canton is a public figure. We need to take good care of her."
Turns out, this was special treatment.
Belinda felt instantly pampered.
"The doctors in your hospital are quite thoughtful," Belinda said.
The doctor laughed, "We aim to please."
Thanks to the preferential treatment, Belinda's ultrasound was conducted quite swiftly and the results also came just as quickly.
Just then, upon receiving the ultrasound results, the doctor couldn't help but frown slightly.
Looking at his reaction, Belinda asked nervously, "Doctor, what is the result?"
The doctor glanced at Belinda, his tone slightly grave, "Follow me to my office first."
Belinda and her manager entered the doctor's office. The door closed, and the doctor finally heaved a sigh, "Miss Canton, I regret to inform you..."
"What are you going to say?" Belinda cut the doctor off before he could finish, "Don't tell me I'm not pregnant. I have taken a urine test, and it clearly showed I'm pregnant."
"Miss Canton, you are indeed pregnant, but..." The doctor handed her the ultrasound results, "The ultrasound shows that there is no fetal heartbeat."
"What... what does that mean?"
The doctor looked at her, saying earnestly, "The fetus has stopped developing, which means the baby in your belly has no life."
"Impossible!"
Belinda screamed, and her manager quickly supported her.
"Doctor, could it be a mistake? Belinda just became pregnant, how could the development stop so soon? There were no signs."
"That's how it is," the doctor replied. "Fetal development often stops in the early stages of pregnancy, and many people don't realize it."
At this point, the doctor tried to comfort her, "Miss Canton, you're still young. There's still a chance to have children. Try not to be too distraught."
"I refuse to believe my baby has stopped developing, it's your hospital that's inadequate. I will find another hospital. I'm leaving now."
As Belinda spoke, she pushed open the office door and rushed out.
The agent quickly followed, but Belinda was in such a hurry that she bumped into someone before the agent could catch up. The ultrasound images in her hand immediately fell to the ground.
"Sorry."
It was a woman in a white lab coat whom Belinda had bumped into. She stooped to pick up the ultrasound images her voice was light and shallow.
Belinda was infuriated, "Don't you have eyes?"
"Belinda, lower your voice."
The agent was afraid of attracting attention. It would be bad if someone identified her, so he quickly reminded her.
But at the mention of "Belinda," the woman doctor holding the ultrasound images hesitated.
Having just glanced at the image on the form, Harper understood what was going on.
Belinda was pregnant!
For a moment, Harper felt as if the numb wound in her chest was throbbing again.
It seemed like she hadn't let go completely.
That was why she let a simple ultrasound affect her mood.
Harper stood up with the ultrasound in her hand and handed it to Belinda, "Here is your drawing, take it."
She spoke with a calm tone.
Belinda received it and gave Harper a look.
She found her familiar, but she couldn’t recall at the spur of the moment.
After taking two steps, it suddenly occurred to her, she turned her head. "Harper."
It was her guess. She remembered that this woman was there at the film set on the day she went to pick a fight with her with Giselle.
But whether it was Harper, she wasn't sure.
Just as Belinda's voice fell, Harper stopped. Belinda quickly took a few steps forward till she was right in front of Harper. "You are Harper."
Gazing intently in Harper's eyes, she scrutinized her carefully.
In doing so, she was making it seem as though Harper was the homewrecker that ruined her relationship.
"I am." Harper answered. There was no trace of emotion on her face. She let Belinda examine her. After a while, she said, "Now that your curiosity is satisfied, please step aside, I have work to do."
Belinda stood in front of Harper, refusing to let her pass.
"You see, I am carrying Steward's child," she even started to provoke Harper.
She was looking forward to Harper losing her composure, she was looking forward to her pain.
If she is suffering this much, Harper deserved it too.
However, Harper’s cool face was like a calm lake, without ripples. "Congratulations," she said.
This made Belinda feel like a joke.
"Aren't you angry, aren't you sad? I'm carrying Che's child, I stole your man."
"What can be taken away is not mine."
Harper said indifferently, "I won't pick up something that has been tainted. If you need him, he's yours. Whether you are pregnant or get married, it has nothing to do with me."
She finished speaking, and walked past Belinda.
Belinda didn't catch up; she called after her, "Let's see how long you can pretend."
Harper did not stop walking.
Belinda remembered the scorn and contempt in Victoria's eyes when she looked at her.
She remembered how she looked when she said, "You're not even close to Harper."
How could she be inferior to this woman?
Boring, indifferent... as she got a closer look at her face, it was cold and unemotional, not attractive or vibrant at all.
What man would like someone like that?
She was obviously better than her in all aspects, so why would Steward treat her like this for this woman?
Even Harper didn't take her seriously.
Harper's indifference revealed her disdain for Belinda.
And Belinda despised this.
Harper entered her office and removed the glasses from her nose, placing them on the desk, and rubbed the corners of her eyes.
How ridiculous!
Unexpectedly, she could feel uncomfortable.
Taking a deep breath, Harper suppressed the unease in her heart and put on her glasses again.
...
Belinda visited several hospitals in a row, and the only answer they gave was the same.
When she returned to the hotel, she completely wilted.
With this outcome, there was no way she could use it as a threat.
"Why is this happening!"
She cried out, swiping the things on the bar counter in the living room — tidied up by the hotel service — back onto the floor.
Belinda's agent didn't know what to do.
Obviously, she was considering the future ramifications.
First of all, the reality dating show had already terminated the contract with them.
Moreover, without Steward's protection, Belinda's career was on the brink of collapse.
Most importantly, they had offended too many people. It was likely that everyone would take the opportunity to kick them while they were down.
"Belinda, why don’t you agree to Victoria’s proposal and accept some money."
Having some money was always better than having none at all.
