Chapter 1168
There was no way Yvette couldn't buy the emerald she wanted with two million dollars.
"We'll pay 2.5 million dollars," Toby said, looking coldly at her.
What should have cost only one million had now been driven up by an extra 1.5 million dollars—all because of her.
He'd settle that score later.
For now, securing the emerald was the priority. This piece was rare. If they let it go now, finding another one like it would be nearly impossible.
"Three million," Yvette countered without even sparing Tilly and Toby a glance.
The shop owner let out a long sigh.
He had been in desperate need of exactly three million dollars. And now, he had it just like that.
After some hesitation, he turned to Toby and said, "Kid, it's not that I don't want to sell it to you, but I really need the money. My mother is seriously ill, and I've found a renowned doctor who can treat her, but the medical fees alone cost three million dollars.
"This time, I have no choice but to break the rules of the antique trade. I'll sell the emerald to this lady. But I'll give you a few small gifts to make it up to you. How about that?"
Toby narrowed his eyes. "We don't need anything else."
He could tell the shop owner was a bit materialistic but not a bad person. At least he hadn't caved to Yvette immediately at the start. It was only because she had offered exactly what he desperately needed.
"Well… I'm really sorry about this," the shop owner said, feeling slightly awkward.
This was the first time he had ever broken the rules. But he had no other choice. Nothing was more important than his mother.
Toby lifted his gaze and asked, "You need all this money for your mother's treatment, right?"
The owner wasn't sure why he was asking but nodded anyway.
"If your mother's illness can be cured, will you sell me the emerald at its original price?" Toby continued.
"If someone could truly cure my mother, I'd gladly give them the emerald as a token of gratitude," the owner replied. "But the renowned doctor I found won't accept anything except cash."
Toby thought momentarily before saying, "I can treat your mother. All I ask in return is the emerald."
Yvette burst into laughter. "Is this kid out of his mind? How old are you? Why are you talking such nonsense?"
"I'm four," Toby replied seriously. "And I'm not making things up."
"You're four, and you think you can treat someone's illness?" Yvette scoffed. "Do your parents even know what nonsense you're spouting outside? Take my advice—go home before you get yourself into trouble."
Tilly's face turned red with rage as she snapped, "Do your parents know how insufferable you are? You're ugly, you talk too much, and you're wasting perfect air just by existing! If Mommy didn't forbid me from using poison recklessly, you'd already be dead! So shut up before I blow you to bits!"
She was fuming. She had just come out to buy an emerald, and now, these idiots were ruining her day! Had they been raised on garbage or what? If so, it was a miracle they had survived this long!
"You little brat! You think I won't teach you a lesson?" Yvette snarled, grabbing Tilly by the collar, ready to strike.
But before she could do so, Tilly suddenly twisted her body and dropped to the ground, wailing at the top of her lungs.
"Help! Someone's hitting me! Can anyone save this poor, helpless child? I'm about to be beaten to death in broad daylight! This is a tragedy! Toby, hurry and tell Mommy! Someone's trying to hurt us. Mommy must avenge me!"
Toby stood there, staring at Tilly as she thrashed around, performing dramatically.
He was speechless.
This little troublemaker was at it again. If she didn't want someone touching her, no one could.
She had let Yvette grab her on purpose.
