Chapter 1169
Yvette was utterly dumbfounded by Tilly's dramatic act. She hadn't even hit her, just barely touched her clothes.
Yet seeing Tilly crying so pitifully, the surrounding crowd immediately turned on her.
"You people are unbelievable! She's just a child. What does she even understand? And you still dared to lay a hand on her? Just wait, I'm calling the police!"
"That's right! Apologize to the kid now, or we'll contact her parents and have them sue you. With all of us as witnesses, don't even think about denying it!"
"People like you disgust me. You're dressed all prim and proper, yet you're nothing more than a heartless bully! You're a mother yourself. How would you feel if your child was treated this way?"
Surrounded by accusations, Yvette was seething. She stomped her foot and snapped, "What the hell are you people talking about? I didn't hit her!"
"Still denying it? Look at the poor girl. Her eyes are swollen from crying!"
In reality, Tilly's eyes weren't swollen at all. She had secretly applied a bit of irritant to make them look puffy.
Fuming, Yvette shouted, "What does her swollen eyes have to do with me? I didn't even touch her! And you people—mind your damn business! This has nothing to do with you!"
"Look at how foul-mouthed and shameless she is! People like her are nothing but trouble. Hurry and find out where the police are! They need to come and teach this woman a lesson!"
Upon hearing this, Tilly immediately cranked up her act. She dropped to the ground, slapped her thighs, and wailed dramatically, her cries full of sorrow.
"Oh, the suffering of a child! Mommy works so hard to raise me and my brother all by herself. But we're always at the mercy of others!
"Today's Mommy's birthday, and my brother and I wanted to buy her a gift. But this lady—she took it from us! Not only did she steal our gift, but she also hit me! Mommy, I'm so sorry. I've been bullied again!
"If you want the gift, I'll give it to you! Just please don't hit me anymore. I'm so scared!"
Tilly wiped her tears, sobbing even louder. "Please don't sell us to human traffickers! If you take us away, Mommy will be all alone. How will she survive?"
Then, she turned to the onlookers and said, "Everyone, please help us! I don't want to be sold!"
The crowd was outraged.
An elderly man stepped forward and carried Tilly into his arms, his face full of compassion. "This poor child… She's so young yet so devoted to her mother. And now, she's been bullied by cold-hearted people. Don't worry, kid. I'll make sure no one lays a finger on you! No one's going to take you away!"
The surrounding crowd quickly joined in, saying, "That's right! Don't be scared, little one. I've already called the police, and they're on their way. Those two won't get away with this!"
Yvette froze when she saw the elderly man. "Grandpa, what are you doing here?"
The man before her was Arthur. He had been traveling with a few old friends and hadn't been staying at home recently. He had just returned today.
Since it was the weekend, he decided to stroll through Antique Street to see if he could find any hidden gems. That was when he heard children crying.
As he got closer, he saw two beautiful little children. Their faces reminded him so much of Loid when he was young.
When he heard the little girl say Yvette was trying to sell them to human traffickers, he was immediately enraged.
Yvette truly never learned.
Five years in prison hadn't changed her. Now, she had the audacity to abduct children.
Someone had to stop her.
"What's this? You're allowed to be here, but I'm not?" Arthur said coldly. "Looks like your courage has only grown. Bullying children now? Did your mother find you a husband so you could carry on with these schemes?"
Yvette's face stiffened, and she quickly explained, "Grandpa, please don't misunderstand. It's not like that. I wasn't bullying them."
