Chapter 1932 Over The Line
Everyone present couldn’t help but tense up. Emmett was no exception.
The man came before Emmett with the box in his hand. With trembling hands, he placed the box in front of him.
“Open it!” Emmett commanded after taking a deep breath. His veins started to bulge out of his forehead due to the intense situation.
The upper echelons of Liberated were also holding their breath. Their gaze was fixated on the box, their fists involuntarily balled at this precise moment.
When the box was opened, a bloody head was revealed.
The head would have appeared to be gruesome and terrifying to ordinary people to the point that they might have been scared sh*tless on the spot. Nonetheless, everyone present was an authority figure who had witnessed bloodshed in their lives. A decapitated head alone would not have much impact on them.
Many of them, however, couldn’t keep their cool when they got a good look at head.
“Motherf*cker! They’ve gone too far this time!”
“D*mn it! We shouldn’t give a sh*t about anything else anymore! Master, we must gather everyone and fight the Jackals once and for all!”
“How dare they pull this stunt on us! F*ck them!”
The eyes of those in the upper echelons had turned red. Emmett was no exception. His eyes were bloodshot and his body was trembling with rage.
This head belonged to one of their organization's nine top executives, which Gideon had previously captured. Gideon had been forcing the Liberated to hand over all of their businesses in mortal cities to the Jackals every day since he kidnapped them. He also wanted them to sign many unequal treaties.
The Liberated had been handling the situation calmly by making certain compromises. They hoped to resolve the issue through further negotiations.
They didn’t expect the Jackals to take advantage of the situation. Only now did they realize that the latter had no intention of bargaining with them. They had threatened that they would either cut off the hostages’ limbs at the beginning. Later, the situation quickly escalated to the murder of the hostages.
“Did they bring us other news this time?” As the leader of the Liberated leader, even though Emmett was furious, he tried his hardest to contain his rage and did not lose his cool right away.
“They... They issued us an ultimatum!” said the man who delivered the message while trembling.
“They’re giving you a week to sign all of the business transfer documents. Otherwise, every hostage, including Young Master, will be killed. They didn’t care about our Celestian roots, opting to instead declare war against the Liberated.”
“This has gone too far!” Emmett couldn’t help but roar. He waved his hand violently, and the teaware in front of him fell to the ground.
“There’s no such thing as Celestian roots to them! The Jackals were considered traitors to the Celestial Empire back then. Do you think they’ll consider our Celestian roots when they’re the type who will resort to any means necessary to get what they want?
“The Jackals are shameless!” Emmett roared furiously.
The other leaders of the Liberated next to him were equally enraged, “They are such bullies! We can’t agree to the Jackals’ request no matter what! Worst comes to worst, we will fight them with all we got and go down together!”
Everyone's opinions were remarkably consistent at this time. These people had integrity, and they would rather die standing than going down on their knees. In the face of the powerful threat from the Jackals, they did not intend to compromise.
However, the Jackals have top powerhouses guarding them. The Liberated would be crushed if they were to start a war. After all, Gideon had previously wiped out all thirteen Liberated branches in a row effortlessly.
Emmett took a deep breath and continued to rub his temples with his hands. He felt like the weight of the world was on his shoulders right now.
The Jackals had a Demigod who had come out of hiding, thus increasing their warriors’ combat strength by leaps and bounds. The Liberated were no match for them because of that. If they were to compromise, they would have given their rival control of the organization’s century-old foundation. How could Emmett answer the Liberated’s forefathers if he were to do this?
Another subordinate strode in from the outside just as Emmett was at a loss for what to do next. He said, “Master, someone has shown up at the door and requested a meeting with you. He claimsto be an agent of the Celestial Empire’s Dragun Squad.”
“The Celestial Empire’s Dragun Squad?” Hearing those words, Emmett was startled at first before straightening up.
“Master, why has the Celestial Empire’s agent shown up at our door? Could it be…?” Some of the top executives in attendance appeared to have guesses of their own. Their eyes were sparkling with delight.
“Where is he?” Emmett leaped to his feet and dashed toward the front door.
A moment later, a man was waiting for Emmett in the reception hall. He wore a black leather jacket and sunglasses while looking quite domineering. He was none other than Green Dragon.
As he strode in from the door, Emmett spotted his guest at once. He greeted Green Dragon immediately. “Welcome to the Liberated’s base, sir.”
“Hello, Mr. Hutchinson! My name is Green Dragon, and I’m an agent of the Celestial Empire’s Dragun Squad.” Green Dragon briefly introduced himself as he turned around and shook Emmett’s hand.
“Greetings, Mr. Dragon. Welcome to the Liberated! It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Emmett hurriedly replied. He looked like he had seen a ray of hope when he met an agent from Dragun Squad. “Please sit down and have a cup of tea.”
The two take a seat. Green Dragon got right to the point without beating around the bush. “Mr. Hutchinson, as far as know, the Jackals has been suppressing the Liberated lately. Things haven’t been peaceful at all, right?”
“Yes! Your squad is truly amazing in gathering intelligence.” Emmett nodded while looking very depressed. “I’m afraid you’re already aware of our predicament.”
Green Dragon nodded with a smile and replied, “Yes. Our squad is aware of your circumstances. Have you considered approaching us for assistance ever since your organization fell into a hopeless situation?”
Emmett was stunned for two seconds before he responded, “Of course, I have thought about it, but we have left the Celestial Empire for half a century, so. . .”
“Haha, look at you! Are you too embarrassed to ask us for help?”
Green Dragon continued bluntly, “Mr. Hutchinson, since I took the initiative to come to you this time, I’m obviously here to deal with the conflict between you two. Dragun Squad desperately needs to have a conflict with the Jackals, but we need a convincing reason to intervene. Do you get what I'm saying?”
Emmett’s eyes lit up. “Mr. Green Dragon, are you saying that…?”
“You’re a smart guy, so I don’t think I need to explain anything further. Although the Liberated and the Jackals have relocated abroad and broke away from the Celestial Empire, but at the end of the day, all of you are Celestians. Besides, your organization has always been loyal to the Celestial Empire. When the Jackals do something like this to you, Dragun Squad can’t just stand by and watch,” Green Dragon reasoned.
“Mr. Green Dragon, I have no idea what Dragun Squad has to gain from this intervention, but please... you must save us!” Emmett stood up abruptly.
“Of course!” Green Dragon promised. “Let me remind you again that we can lend you a hand as long as we have a proper reason to step in!”
