Chapter 40 A Woman’s Jealousy

After having a pleasant meal, Lyla bid farewell to Arden and returned to the company in a rush. Her success in closing the case undoubtedly made the Department of Design go into a frenzy again. Lyla swept Lily, particularly, off her feet. “Lyla, how did you make an impossible task possible?” Lily approached Lyla and asked excitedly. Lyla smiled. “It was nothing impressive. I just happened to see the necklace a few years ago. It left a strong impression on me, which is why it wasn’t difficult for me.” “You should have told me earlier. I was worried about you for nothing.” Lily pouted intentionally. “Forgive me. I just realized it yesterday as well,” Lyla apologized sincerely. “I’m just joking, tee-hee!” Lily giggled and replied. “Anyway, you got the contract signed again this time. You can consider it as a show of your strength to Kathleen. She could not get angry with others in public, no matter how dissatisfied she was. She walked up to Lyla. She had anticipated the result when she saw Lyla and Arden have lunch together in the afternoon. Kathleen knew that Lyla had completed another case, but in her opinion, Lyla was a woman who had used her body to complete the case. She got this contract signed through her connections, so Kathleen despised her. “Don’t be too proud, Ms. Lowe! I’m sure you’re aware of how you completed this case.” Kathleen looked at her with contempt and spoke with a sneer. “I don’t get it. What do you mean?” Lyla was neither humble nor arrogant, neither irritated nor anxious. How did she complete it? It had obviously been through her own effort. But of course, luck had played a part too. Fortunately, she had seen the necklace by chance in the past. Was she blessed? “Don’t ask the obvious!” Kathleen became more frustrated when Lyla seemed indifferent. Kathleen’s acrimonious tone made the others uncomfortable. Lyla’s words hit the nail on the head. Kathleen glared at her fiercely and ignored her question. Then, she turned around and walked toward her office. The rest of them looked at each other. What Lyla said was correct. Kathleen would have a reason to fire her if she could not complete the task. However, she would still pick on Lyla if she completed it, because of jealousy. “Lyla, what did she mean?” Lily walked over. “I don’t know.” Lyla shook her head and answered. “Just ignore her. She’s clearly jealous of you. A woman’s jealousy is indeed the most powerful force!” Lily threw a glare in the direction of Kathleen’s office. “You’re talking as if both of us aren’t women!” After Lyla said that, they looked at each other and laughed. When it was about time to get off work, Lily had a discussion with her colleagues from the Department of Design. They planned to have dinner and go for karaoke to celebrate Lyla’s completion of the big case. Lyla did not say anything else this time. She would seem unreasonable if she declined again. Then, Lily secretly asked Lyla, “Do you think that we should tell Kathleen?” Lyla contemplated for a while. “She might not come even if we tell her, but if we don’t, we will seem petty. After all, she is still our director and superior, so I think we should tell her,” she suggested. Lily nodded. “Your suggestion makes sense. It’s better to tell her. It’d be great if she doesn’t go! Otherwise, she’ll affect our good mood.” Lyla smiled. It seemed like Kathleen was not the only one who had a deep prejudice against them, but Lily’s prejudice against her was quite deep too. “Her presence won’t affect us hanging out,” Lyla said honestly with a smile. Lily smiled to show her understanding. Their other colleagues were also discussing where they should go. Right then, there was a commotion at the entrance. “President…” “Mr. Pattinson…” Everyone greeted him unevenly. When Lyla heard their greetings, her heart quivered inevitably. She raised her head and looked at the entrance together with Lily. ‘Huh, what is he doing here?’ Right then, Mark walked in. His tall figure, which was over five-foot-nine, looked particularly pleasing to the eye. His delicate face showed an enchanting expression at all times. He was so handsome that even God would be angry when he saw him. Everyone had such thoughts when they laid eyes on him for the first time. Did he have to be that handsome?
