Chapter 5

Jayce's cheery voice came through the phone. However, Jayce said that he didn't have enough money on hand since he had just bought a house. I chuckled and told him that I had some savings I could use to cover for him. After that, I gave the bank a call. I told them I wanted to withdraw all the money in Harold's account. This was a suggestion that Harold brought up before. To save up for the future, he opened an account for me to put my savings and salary into it. The bank staff got back to me very quickly. "Your remaining balance is insufficient. This account only has eight cents." That sentence hit me like a bolt of lightning. "Eight cents? How is that possible! I had eight hundred thousand dollars in there before!" I had the staff help me check the transaction history. They responded quickly, "Mrs. Jackson, your husband, Harold Atkins, had already transferred the money out of your account two years ago." At the staff's words, I was furious. However, once I calmed down, I wasn't even surprised. After all, someone as cold-blooded and selfish as Harold would never leave me with a way out. Back then, I seriously thought that he brought up saving money because he was thinking of our future. I was a fool to put so much money in there. Now, all that money was going to someone else. All the money I saved up was going right into his pocket! I scoffed, saving the call I had with the bank and taking screenshots of all the deposits I've made over the years. Afterward, I sent all the information to Michael in preparation for the lawsuit against Harold. That night, Harold didn't return home. He didn't even send a message to check in with me. Sierra really had him hooked! He couldn't even be bothered to keep up his act with me. If it were before, I would have been heartbroken, crying my heart out. But now, I was unbelievably calm. Sleepiness took over me. With a yawn, I got to bed and fell asleep. Surprisingly, I slept soundly that night. The next morning, I woke up refreshed. After breakfast, I hailed a cab to the office. I was ready to resign from my job. Once I arrived, Sierra waltzed up to me in her high heels. She pointed at my face and shouted in a condescending tone, "Mrs. Jackson! I know you're Mr. Atkin's wife, but company rules are rules! You're a second late, so you owe a hundred dollars! Will you be using cash or card?" I wanted to laugh. "I clocked in right on time! What do you mean by late?" I snapped. Sierra scoffed, Your left foot is in the building, but your right foot is still outside! Naturally, that counts as being late!" I turned to Harold, but he kept quiet.
