Chapter 907
"Since we don't know the young lord's true strength, why don't we declare him dead and claim that it was Cyrus, the imposter, who issued the previous Medical Directive?
"We won't admit the truth even if the young lord appears later. This way, we'll have an excuse if he has really reached the Miracle Healer Realm and we can't kill him," Bernard proposed.
The other elders concurred. With this plan, it wouldn't be considered an act of treason that could undermine the nation even if they eliminated the young lord. The Lord of Summerland wouldn't be able to hold them accountable because they would be killing a fake.
If the young lord had truly entered the Miracle Healer Realm, they could immediately backtrack and claim that they had mistaken his identity, therefore protecting their lives and avoiding punishment for their families.
Looking enlightened, Owen beamed at Bernard and said, "Bernard, you truly deserve to be the top figure in Summerland's medical world. You're the pillar of the nation!"
Bernard turned to Moses and asked, "What do you think, Moses?"
"Sounds good to me." Moses nodded hastily.
"If you have anything to say, please speak up. Don't regret it later. We've known each other for over a hundred years. It'd be devastating to fall out," Bernard added.
Seeing that everyone's attention was on him, Moses took a sip of tea and said, "Back when Morbia invaded, the general of Southgress—Charles Longbatten—was ambushed by ten thousand elite troops during a reconnaissance mission.
"He was pursued from the highlands to the snow-capped mountains, and from there to the forests, for a total of 18 days. He was barely alive by the time he returned, sustaining several internal injuries.
"The Lord of Summerland who was in reign that time came to Southgress in person to ask if I could treat General Longbatten. I refused, saying that it was a hopeless situation.
"The Lord had no choice but to send General Longbatten to the Hippocrates Sect, where the old lord personally healed him.
"At that time, Morbia's intelligence reported that General Longbatten was dead, leading them to amass an army of a million to seize Southgress. If General Longbatten hadn't stood before them perfectly unharmed, they wouldn't have fled in terror."
The other elders were aware of this incident as well. The previous Lord of Summerland had approached them at that time, and they all expressed their belief that there was no chance of saving Charles.
Visibly displeased, Owen asked, "Moses, what are you implying?"
"What I mean is that the Hippocrates Sect is not only the leading authority in the medical world but is also the core of Summerland. Only with peace in Summerland can we profit and prosper. Otherwise, when external threats come, are we supposed to rely on doctors to take up arms against the enemy?"
"Moses, you're right, but does the young lord even respect us?" Owen challenged. "He executed my daughter without a word, allowed Cyrus to openly occupy Manor No. 1, and killed my grandson while claiming Leah for himself."
"Isn't that because your family coveted the Jorsproburgh market and provoked them?" Moses replied with a sneer.
He couldn't openly discuss the Sykes family's involvement in poison as there was no solid evidence.
Owen snorted. "What's wrong with expanding markets? That wastrel, Cyrus, is nothing but a pest, and so are the four families of Jorsproburgh. If they dare to challenge me now, they'll soon do the same to your family, the Olsen family, the Shaw family, and the Anderson family."
The other elders thought he sounded convincing, and they all quickly nodded in agreement. Being extreme materialists, they gave no heed to Summerland's survival as long as their family's interests remained intact.
"Must the young lord die? He may be a bit young and intolerant, but he's still someone we can communicate with," Moses argued.
"Since your daughter is siding with Cyrus, does that mean you're already colluding with the young lord?" Owen shouted.
The other four elders immediately looked at Moses warily.
Enraged, Moses bellowed, "Is it really that hard for you all to accept a word of truth now?"
