Chapter 5

As soon as Marcus stepped into the office, Henry quickly reported to him, "Sir, everything's been arranged." "Okay," Marcus nodded understandingly. Under normal circumstances, that would've ended the conversation. But Henry had taken on a little extra "mission," and after hesitating for a second, he mustered up the courage to remind him, "Mr. Sinclair, Miss Diana asked me to remind you not to forget your lunch today." Marcus frowned slightly, obviously not thrilled, but still gave a curt nod. "Got it." Meanwhile, Elaine was driving a tiny golf cart toward Valtros Group. According to Mrs. Thompson, it was used for grocery runs. Considering all the other rides in the garage were swanky luxury cars, she decided it was best to stay low-key. The trip from the Sinclair mansion to Valtros took about an hour and a half. Halfway there, Elaine already started regretting her decision. I mean, what's the point of showing up anyway? While zoning out, she suddenly spotted those giant letters spelling out Valtros Group—but that wasn't what made her sit up straight. There, as clear as day, was someone very familiar. That wasn't Fiona Foster getting into a red BMW convertible? And wait a sec... was the driver a woman? Yo, did she swing that way now? Of course, that weird thought just flashed by. Elaine instantly shifted gears—literally and mentally—and followed them. Who knew, she might just get something juicy out of this. She trailed Fiona to a fancy upscale restaurant. They picked a window seat, while Elaine found a spot not too close to raise eyebrows but near enough to eavesdrop. Thanks to Audrey's memories, Elaine recognized the other girl sitting with Fiona—Diana Miles, Marcus's childhood friend. She even had a brother, Kendrick Miles—Marcus's buddy. The two girls were chatting and laughing, occasionally glancing toward the entrance. Obvious they were waiting for someone. About thirty minutes later, their VIP arrived. Elaine never expected it to be Marcus. Not wanting to be spotted by Marcus, Elaine quickly lifted a menu to shield her face. But since she couldn't hear anything from that distance, she stealthily switched to a closer, less noticeable seat. Diana leaned in, putting on her sweetest voice, "Marcus, finally! It's been ages since I saw you!" Marcus didn't say a word. Trying again, Diana gestured toward Fiona. "Marcus, let me introduce you. This is my bestie, Fiona." Then she turned to Fiona, over-the-top cheerful. "Fiona, this is Marcus—he's my big brother's friend and mine too. The CEO of Orion Axis Group." Fiona stood up politely with a warm smile, reaching out to shake hands. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Sinclair." Marcus's face was a mask of ice, he didn't even bother reaching for her hand. Diana, trying to salvage the moment, turned to him pleadingly. "Come on, Marcus, don't be so stiff." "I've got a meeting this afternoon. I'm leaving," he replied bluntly and stood up without hesitation. Fiona shot a desperate look at Diana, who quickly grabbed Marcus's sleeve, clearly panicked. "Marcus, wait. You can't just leave!" Then, with zero preamble, she asked, "Tell me the truth—what do you think of Fiona?" Marcus turned back, brows furrowed tighter. Diana's tone instantly sharpened. "Didn't you say you're divorcing that woman anyway?"
