Chapter 28

On the road outside the hospital, Heather forcefully stuffed the belongings in her arms into a roadside trash bin. She turned around and took one last look at the hospital entrance. Within those walls, she had endured far too much humiliation and wasted too many years of her life. Without the slightest hesitation, she turned away and strode forward. From now on, she would live for herself. A nondescript gray van suddenly roared up behind her, moving at an alarming speed. Without warning, the van screeched to a halt. Heather instinctively stepped aside, but in the next second, two men burst out of the vehicle. They clamped a hand over her mouth and nose as they dragged her toward the van. She struggled with all her strength, but the men were clearly experienced. In a few swift movements, they bound her hands and feet, then tossed her into the back of the van.
