Victory
Devon's roared commands spurred the soldiers into action. The left flank immediately melted into the thick fog, their rifle sights seeking the shadows on the cliff face. The right flank dropped to a knee, setting up a light machine gun. Its staccato roar, like a sudden downpour of lead, hammered against the enemy position, forcing the ambushers to duck for cover.
I clutched my short knife, staying low in the depression on the slope next to Devon. His injured shoulder trembled slightly, yet his voice remained sharp and precise as he directed the fight.
