Chapter 1053 Otto Also Sensed Something Amiss
Vince, who was trussed up tightly, listened intently to Otto and Xavia’s conversation. He was like an ant on a hot pan, yet he could not break free. His overwhelming regret felt like a series of slaps, causing his face to turn red. He wished he could break free and drive these people out of Imperium. After that, he would kill himself to atone for the mistakes he had made.
"Check if those from the off-site training are on their way back. We can't let them know what's happening here or they might run," Otto instructed coldly as he took a deep drag of his cigar.
Since Frieda’s death, Cyrus had decided not to cause the Whitmans any more trouble and handed over the management of Duskfall to Otto. Harold shared the same perspective, believing that the deceased could not be resurrected. Frieda's suicide was meant to stop the perpetuation of past grievances from being passed on to the next generation.
It no longer mattered who was right or wrong.
Harold advised Joseph to let the past be the past as continuing the conflict was meaningless. Besides, Frieda had also hoped that Joseph could let go of his hatred and have a blissful life. Joseph had followed Harold's advice and ordered Imperium to lift their surveillance on Duskfall, and life became peaceful. However, Otto was ambitious and had secretly planned this operation. Even Cyrus was unaware of this plan.
Xavia confidently said, "Don’t worry. Our people are ready and waiting. We'll be alerted the moment someone shows up."
Otto remained silent, his eyes gleaming with confidence.
Suddenly, Vince's phone started to vibrate. His eyes widened, and he started shouting, though it came out muffled as his mouth was sealed. He was attempting to cover up the vibration of his phone. Otto turned around and glanced at Vince. Seemingly not to notice the ringing phone, he turned away after a moment.
Vince breathed a sigh of relief. Just when he thought Otto had not noticed anything, Otto abruptly turned around and picked up the phone from the table. He waved it at Vince mockingly and said, "You fool. Do you think I'm deaf? Hahaha!"
Realizing that Otto had played him, Vince was stunned. His anger surged, and he struggled again to break free but to no avail.
"Let me see if it's Chloe. Maybe she's about to arrive. I want to greet her personally," Otto said as he unlocked Vince's phone. However, when he saw the name on the screen, he frowned, "Zoelle? Why would she message you?"
When Vince heard Zoelle's name, he stopped struggling. He craned his neck to get a better look at the phone screen.
Buzz.
Buzz.
Buzz.
Zoelle sent him three messages in a row.
[Why aren’t you answering your phone?]
[Reply to my messages now.]
[Are you in danger?]
The last message came in just as the phone started ringing again. The ringing of the phone sounded like fireworks, causing a myriad of emotions to burst in Vince's chest. He could not express what he felt when he learned that Zoelle was worried about him.
"It only takes about two hours to get here from Exotic Star. Chloe should’ve arrived by now. Why is there no sign of her?" Xavia wondered aloud, "How about we try calling her?"
Otto, also sensing something amiss, agreed.
"Sorry. The number you have dialed cannot be reached at the moment. Please try again later,” a mechanical voice rang out.
Otto was taken aback. He then called Joseph and was greeted by the same mechanical customer service message. He slammed the phone on the ground and cursed, "Damn it! Chloe must’ve realized something and told Joseph!"
