Chapter 1058 Going the Extra Mile to Ensure Success
Chloe clenched her teeth, frustrated that her attempt to deceive Xavia had failed.
'What do I do now? Should I kick her stomach? But the child in her womb is innocent. And what if that just makes her even angrier?'
While Chloe was lost in her thoughts, the tip of the dagger approached. She refrained from taking the risk and simply shut her eyes.
"Get away from her!" Zoelle shouted as she hit Xavia on the back of the head.
Xavia staggered a few steps back. Her dagger clattered to the ground as she fainted.
Chloe, still in shock, stared at Zoelle. As her brain processed what just happened, she asked, "Why are you here?"
Bent over and trying to catch her breath, Zoelle explained, "I called Vince several times, but he didn’t answer. Then I called you, and you didn't answer either. I immediately guessed that something had happened to you and Joseph."
Chloe asked, "How did you find this place?"
Imperium's location was concealed and there was no human activity nearby. The gate was closed at all times and was made to look like an abandoned factory from the outside. Most people would not notice it unless someone told them to look.
Chloe feared that Zoelle might have ulterior motives. She stared at Zoelle intently, trying to see if she was lying.
"Noah told me where the place is, and Lucas too,” Zoelle explained, sensing Chloe’s concern. "I had an inkling that you were in danger and couldn't contact you or Joseph, so I asked Noah about the approximate location of Imperium. He wasn't very sure, so I went to find Lucas."
"Noah told you?" Chloe lowered her head. It was possible that he was aware of Imperium's location. After all, he always went the extra mile to ensure the success of his plans.
"Why did you come to us even though you know it's dangerous here?"
"U-Umm…" Zoelle stammered. Looking at the skepticism in Chloe's eyes, she sighed, "I have no idea either." She did not want Vince to die. If he was on the brink of death, she had the ability to save him. Other doctors might not be able to do so.
Chloe pondered for a few minutes, then said, "Thank you for saving me."
"Don't mention it. Where's Vince? Is anyone injured? I'll go and treat them. I brought a medical kit with me."
Understanding dawned upon Chloe. She finally realized why Zoelle harbored animosity toward Bethany. So, her suspicions were correct. Zoelle had feelings toward Vince.
"I don't know either. You came in from behind, right? Joseph told me to wait here for him," Chloe. She then paused, then added in a sad tone, "Bethany’s dead. I think Xavia killed her."
Though Chloe disliked Bethany, Bethany had been a part of Imperium and had made significant sacrifices to the organization. Being an orphan, Bethany considered this place her home. Treating this place as her home was not a mistake. Her mistake was that she thought Joseph could only belong to her.
"What?" Zoelle exclaimed with surprise. "Does Vince know?"
"I think not yet."
Both of them fell silent, and the atmosphere descended into stillness.
After about half an hour, the commotion outside died down.
"I'll go outside and take a look," Zoelle said.
"I'll wait for you here. Come back if it's too dangerous," Chloe said.
