Chapter 1060 She Wasn’t the Ordinary Girl of the Past
Chloe's heart skipped a beat and she struggled to breathe. For someone as proud as Joseph, losing an arm was not just a physical impairment, but also an emotional blow.
"You're a skilled physician. Will you save him?" Chloe pleaded.
Looking at the unconscious Vince. Zoelle removed her gloves and softly said, "I’ll try, but I can't guarantee the outcome."
"Thank you."
"Which hospital are you at?"
Chloe gave the address, and Zoelle immediately set off. On the way to the hospital, Zoelle thought about Noah. On one side was a patient waiting for her to save his life, and on the other was her friend.
After some brief hesitation, she decided to call Noah. If he wished for her not to treat Joseph, she would not go. There were so many patients in the world, and she could not save them all. Friends, on the other hand, were irreplaceable.
"The number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later."
Unfortunately, Noah did not answer her call.
Zoelle put down the phone and sighed in relief. She should practice medicine altruistically, actively treating every patient she comes across and earning the love and trust of the world like her master. However, she was not entirely virtuous in her actions. Her approach to treating patients had always been goal-oriented. Even when faced with pleas, she would only intervene if there was a reward for her skills.
However, this time felt different. It was not Joseph but rather Vince that motivated her. She understood that if Vince discovered she intentionally neglected Joseph, he would be devastated. While she was not afraid of Vince’s anger, she wished to avoid provoking him.
Zoelle shook her head to clear her mind. The driver was fast, and with no traffic, they soon arrived at the hospital. The hospital director, who also served as the lead surgeon, was taken aback when he saw Zoelle.
"Ms. Zoelle? What are you doing here?"
Her sudden appearance surprised him as Zoelle was often out of the country. However, it made sense for her to be summoned considering Joseph's status.
Zoelle swiftly tied up her hair and donned a surgical cap. "Get me a set of scrubs. I'm going in to take a look."
"Of course, right away!" The director had a nurse fetch the necessary attire and then led Zoelle through the preparations for the surgery.
Watching them enter the operation room, Chloe felt like she was in limbo. She forced herself to appear calm as she turned to Harold and said, "Zoelle’s a highly skilled physician. With her around, Joseph will be fine."
Harold’s gaze held a hint of unease as he asked, "Chloe, if Joseph loses an arm, will you still accept him?"
Having witnessed the reconciliation between Joseph and Chloe, Harold was concerned that this sudden incident would cause Chloe to reconsider the relationship. In practical terms, if Joseph became disabled, he would no longer be a good match for Chloe.
Being the heiress of Exotic Star, Chloe did not need any assistance from the Whitmans. She could lead a life with Jasper independently. She was not the ordinary girl of the past anymore.
Chloe said, "Of course, I will, Grandpa. Do you think I'm that horrible of a person?"
"No, I'm worried that your grandfather might intervene again."
"He won't. Grandpa won't go back on his word. He has relinquished the power to make decisions on my behalf and won't interfere with my marriage."
Harold was relieved. He had assumed that Chloe was still in the midst of an argument with Desmond. A smile appeared on his face, but it did not last long. He asked, "Otto ran away, but what about Xavia? Did you manage to catch her?"
"Yes, we did. She's being held at Imperium."
Harold's face sank as he gestured to Patrick and whispered something in his ear. They discussed something in low voices, and Chloe could not catch what was being said. After giving his instructions, Harold nodded, and Patrick left.
Chloe stood by the window, watching as Patrick headed in the direction of Imperium.
