Chapter 274

When Shaun left the kitchen and saw Lily gaming on her phone, he went up to her to take a closer look. "You play City of Glory too? I've never seen you play it before," Shaun said. He had wanted to leave, but when he saw the game she was playing, he sat down next to her to watch instead. Loid heard this and glanced in Lily's direction. He knew she would indulge in games from time to time. Some of them were single-player video games. A few of them were complex and challenging. He had tried a few of those games but never got past the first round. Loid thought Lily was only into problem-solving and tactical games. He had never seen her play City of Glory. "I've only just gotten the hang of it," Lily answered nonchalantly as she played the game. Shaun glimpsed her gaming profile and chuckled. "You're still a Gold Rank player? No worries. I can carry you." With that, he took out his phone and said to Loid, "You play City of Glory too. Since you're free, why don't we team up for a few rounds?" Loid gave Lily a cursory look and handed her his phone. "Here, knock yourself out." Lily paused and took his phone. She logged onto the game, and her eyes narrowed imperceptibly. She tipped her head to one side and gave Loid an odd look. Sensing her gaze, Loid asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?" "No reason," Lily said breezily as she looked away. She had only just landed in the game waiting area when she received an invite to team up. The player who invited her went by "Rizz King". Lily quirked a brow and accepted the invite. The moment she was redirected to the playing field, the player turned on their mic. "Loid? Do my eyes deceive me? You haven't used this account for three years! What brings you to this virtual realm of leisure today?" Shaun recognized the voice immediately and exclaimed in shock, "Holy crap! Duncan? Your old man's been hounding on me! Get your ass back here! If I catch you, I'll punch the living daylights out of you!" Shaun was sitting close enough to Loid that Duncan heard every word he said. He snorted and replied, "As if I'd be so stupid as to go back and be forced to inherit the family legacy!" "So, you're letting me bear the brunt of your absence?" Shaun snapped angrily. "You're not in Bridgeport, so how could you be bearing the brunt of it?" Duncan shot back. "How do you know I'm not in Bridgeport?" Shaun asked, looking baffled. Duncan fell speechless. He was in Bridgeport right now. He would know if Shaun were there. However, he kept his sarcastic remark to himself and immediately changed the subject. "Come on, start the game!" Shaun did not bother arguing with him. The next second, Lily dragged him into the virtual room. The players would have to choose their heroes for the game. Lily chose the mage. She was good with all kinds of heroes, but the mage was her favorite and most frequent choice. Duncan was perplexed by her choice of hero. "Loid, when did you start favoring the mage? It seems a little out of character for you." "That's not Loid; that's his fiancée!" Shaun snapped. "She's a newbie, so watch her back and don't let her get attacked. "Once I'm done clearing the jungle, we'll assemble and pull a pentakill on the opponents. After that, we move on to the boss!" Duncan had gone quiet. Shaun could only be referring to Lily when he said Loid's fiancée was playing the game. He cursed Shaun inwardly. Only Shaun would be stupid enough to say Tyrant, the legendary gamer, was a newbie at City of Glory. Duncan reckoned Shaun didn't know Lily was Tyrant. He decided to keep quiet about it. However, he had to admit Lily was playing like a newbie today. She seemed intent on fooling around, and she would have died several times in the game if Duncan hadn't defended her. Shaun was already in the zone. "Lily, don't move! Find a bush and hide in it!" He was shouting and wailing the entire time. Lily, on the other hand, was not gaming seriously at all.
