Chapter 276

For the next three rounds, Lily did not unleash her full skills and struggled as a newbie would. The boss did not drop any rare items either. At this rate, Shaun and Duncan saw no point in continuing the game and stopped. Bored out of his mind, Shaun was about to suggest that they go out when the doorbell rang. "Mr. Laurier, there's an elderly man by the name of Mr. Morris who wishes to speak with Ms. Brooks," the security guard reported. Before Loid could speak, Lily stood up and made her way out. "Have him wait there. I'll escort him in." Loid watched Lily leave with a raised brow. She didn't have many visitors here at Amner Heights, and he had never seen her personally escort any of them. Lily walked to the front door and saw Michael's hunched figure on the other side of the threshold. He was holding a pouch. She hurried to him and took the pouch. "What are you doing here? Didn't I tell you to wait for me at your place?" Michael hadn't been able to return the last time after running into trouble on the way. Lily hadn't told him about Belinda's death, worried that he would insist on coming here. Michael rapped his knuckles on Lily's forehead and snapped, "Wait for you? Bah! I would've turned into a fossil by then. How could you keep your grandmother's death from me? Do you have any respect for me at all?" Lily lowered her gaze. "It's not as if you could have made it in time." "That's my business to worry about, but it was your business to tell me!" Michael put his hands behind him and strode into the house. He declared, "As punishment, I'll be staying here and having you wait on me!" Lily gaped at him, wondering if the old man had finally lost his marbles. She walked alongside him and opened the pouch to inspect its contents. She asked, "Did Kanya leave these with you?" Michael chuckled. "That's right. Don't underestimate them, though. They're precious in their own ways." Lily frowned. Inside the pouch were two stalks of dendrobium. How precious could they be? As if reading her thoughts, Michael reached into the pouch and took out a stalk. He handed it to Lily and said, "I never told you that Kanya was a poison maker. She could purge poison as well as curate it. "These two stalks of dendrobiu were soaked in a tonic containing 208 herbs. They can purge all kinds of poison and are more effective than the Poison Pill I invented. I'd like for you to study the dendrobium and see if you could make other antitoxins out of it." Lily hadn't expected Kanya to be a poison maker. While surprised, she did not comment on it. She should have known that Michael's connections were far from ordinary. She led the old man into the villa. Loid was talking to the others, and she cleared her throat to gain their attention. Feeling self-conscious all of a sudden, she said, "Allow me to introduce my mentor, Michael Morris… He'll be staying in Amner Heights for a while." Loid, Daniel, and Shaun were stunned to hear this. They wondered why Lily's elusive and legendary mentor had dropped by without notice. Loid stood up immediately and hurried to greet Michael. He was polite as he said, "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Morris. I'm Loid Laurier." A pause later, he added for good measure, "I'm Lily's fiancé." Michael assessed Loid icily, "So, you're the punk who charmed the wits out of my precious apprentice? Hmph! "I don't care which family you hail from or how influential you are; you're nothing to me! As long as I don't approve of you, you'll never take my apprentice away from me!" Loid fell silent. He had worked hard to win Lily over, and now, he had to deal with an overprotective mentor. By the looks of it, he was in for a challenge. Shaun and Daniel exchanged a look before hurriedly greeting Michael, "Mr. Morris, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Shaun—" "You have no right to address me!" Michael cut him off brusquely, snorting. "I'll take it from Loid, but who do you think you are to address me at all?" "I…" Shaun's heart dropped to his stomach. He didn't remember offending Lily's mentor in any way, so why was the old man so hostile toward him? Michael ignored Shaun and Daniel. He sat down on the couch and said unabashedly, "I'm hungry!" "I'll have the chef deliver food here right away," Loid said as he made to call the chef. However, he had yet to hit the call button when Michael pointed at him. "I want you to cook for me!" Loid froze. A beat later, he agreed with a smile, "Very well. I'll just be a moment." As he made his way to the kitchen, he said to Lily, "Take good care of Mr. Morris." Shaun was rendered speechless.
