Chapter 1919 Climbing The Sword Cliff
Eldrian’s body erupted with a flash of white light as he grabbed Dillon. A sword flew out of the former’s sleeve and landed at his feet. The next thing Tyr knew, Eldrian jumped onto the sword with Dillon as they flew off. The sword burst out with white light and flew at a low altitude. In an instant, it dashed in the direction of the Sword Cliff.
“Gliding Swords!”
Tyr’s jaw almost dropped when he saw the scene. Eldrian actually mastered the legendary sword riding cultivation technique. Would this old man embark on the path of immortals?
Nonetheless, Eldrian’s method was rather magical. The theory was similar to Tyr and other Demigods using vitality energy suspended on their soles to be able to fly at low altitudes. Eldrian’s method, however, appeared to be more impressive.
Obviously, the old Demigod took less time to ride on his sword and flew toward Sword Cliff in comparison with Tyr and Dillon to climb the cliff.
Even though the God’s soul remnant on the cliff had vanished, they were still attacked by a swarm of terrifying blade energy. It attempted to keep the two from approaching the edge of the cliff.
They continued to fight off the incoming blade energy. The blade energy became stronger as they got closer to the cliff. They only moved forward for a few hundred meters closer to the cliff, but it took them nearly three hours to do so.
They finally reached the cliff three hours later. Both of them were wounded and covered in blood.
Eldrian lifted his head and pointed at Sword Cliff’s peak. “Dillon, the future of our family depends on you,” he said softly. “Have you seen the Sword Cliff's peak? You will become a Demigod if you climb up there barefooted.”
As soon as his voice fell, the domineering blade energy erupted from the cliff and landed squarely on Eldrian’s chest. The old man flew backward while spewing a mouthful of blood.
When Tyr noticed Eldrian’s plight, he flew over immediately, grabbed him, and placed him steadily on the ground.
Eldrian appeared much weaker after they landed. His face was as white as a sheet, his vigor depleting rapidly. Tyr became concerned as he observed Eldrian’s condition.
“Senior Eldrian, can you keep going?” Tyr asked, having seemingly made a huge decision. He thought of something and took out the other half of the elixir of life that had been kept in his wrist guard.
“Senior Eldrian, you have to take this.” Eldrian sat cross-legged on the ground. He constantly used his vitality energy to regulate his frail body. However, since he had already reached the end of his lifespan, it was impossible to restore his vigor no matter how strong his vitality energy was.
“Is this the elixir of life that you’ve obtained from Emperor Martyn’s royal tomb?” Eldrian looked at the magical pill in Tyr’s hand and asked in surprise.
“Bingo! Previously, a Demigod has eaten the other half of the elixir, and it did restore his youth to him,” Tyr said with a nod. “Senior Eldrian, you have to eat this now. You will become much stronger than your current state once you have it.”
“Haha!” Surprisingly, Eldrian did not take the elixir from Tyr. He shook his head repeatedly and said, “Young Warrior, I appreciate your kindness, but I can’t take the elixir.”
Tyr thought that Eldrian was hesitant to accept it because the elixir was so valuable. “Senior Eldrian, this elixir serves a few purposes for me, but if you eat it, you can prolong your life.”
“Young Warrior, thank you, but that’s not what I meant. Everyone has their own destiny,” Eldrian explained with a sigh. “Nobody is immune to the law of nature. The consequences of changing our destiny by force will be unimaginable. Humans will indeed die at some point, but we will never vanish. Many things cannot be done forcibly.”
Tyr was genuinely taken aback. He couldn’t understand why some Demigods, such as Archie and Snow Lady, would fight tooth and nail to get their hands on this elixir. However, when Tyr offered this elixir to Maxime, Spartacus, or Eldrian, they all turned it down.
Were they not afraid of death?
Eldrian continued smiling as he observed Tyr’s puzzled expression. “You will understand the reason once you’ve lived as long as I did,” he explained.
Tyr didn’t force Eldrian to drink the elixir. Instead, he simply put the elixir away.
Eldrian’s weak appearance made him worry a lot. Both of them stared at the Sword Cliff quietly after that. Dillon had reached the foot of the cliff, having only climbed less than ten meters.
Dillon seemed to have discovered something from the start of his journey. He didn’t use his power to defend himself. Instead, he climbed with bare feet and hands in the face of those sharp swords.
“Can Dillon make it?” Tyr had no idea whether Dillon would succeed, but he could sense Dillon’s unwavering spirit that wouldn’t tolerate the prospect of failing.
Dillon struggled to climb the cliff. Time ticked by in minutes. He had to endure excruciating pain every time he moved forward a few millimeters. After a full day and a night, he only climbed one-third of the Sword Cliff.
His body was covered in blood. Excruciating pain flared from various parts of his body whenever he moved. Despite this, Dillon appeared to be completely oblivious to the discomfort. He didn’t pay attention to check how far off he was from the top of the cliff. He had only one thought in his mind; he needed to climb up even if it meant covering very little distance at a time until he reached the peak.
On the other hand, Eldrian sat cross-legged on the ground. He locked his gaze on Dillon as the latter climbed the cliff.
As time went on, his health seemed to deteriorate. He dozed off a few times in between. He would stare at the cliff when he was awake, and fall asleep again after watching Dillon's progress for a while.
Three days had passed in the blink of an eye. Dillon had made it more than halfway up the cliff, but there was still a long way to go before reaching the top.
“Tyr, if he climbs to the peak, you must wake me up,” Eldrian said as he awoke from his slumber.
Tyr hurriedly nodded. He was about to turn around and say something to Eldrian, but he wasn't expecting the old Demigod to fall asleep again after he said those words to him. Tyr sighed helplessly and turned to face the Sword Cliff once more.
The sky above the cliff began to fill with dense black clouds. Thunder and lightning erupted from the black clouds. A bad premonition suddenly emerged in Tyr’s heart.
Sure enough, lightning blasted down from the sky and struck the cliff.
